I have to write a paper. And no, I'm not asking you to write it for me! Here's the assignment:

"Though Presidents Jefferson and Jackson both defined themselves as strict-constructionist advocates of limited power, historians believe that few 19th century Presidents (perhaps only Lincoln) did more to expand the powers of the national government, especially the Presidency. Evaluate the validity of this statement."

Does anyone know of any specific things that Jefferson and Jackson did to expand the power of the national government? I already have many ideas brainstormed such as Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase and Jackson's veto of the recharter of the Bank of the United States. Please help me by providing me with additional ideas to help me support my thesis that Jefferson and Jackson did indeed greatly expand the powers of the national government. Thank you!

I'm trying to find some values of the Middle Ages, to study for an essay test tomorrow. I already have a bunch from the Anglo-Saxon time period (religion, love of personal freedom, love of honor, struggle for glory, responsiveness to nature, reverence for women), but I can't seem to find many from the Middle Ages. Does anyone know any?

How did the biblical description (Solomon 11:12) of an omnipotent God who "hast ordered all things in measure, and number, and weight" influence the design of Gothic Cathedrals?

I mean with slavery the captor has to feed, clothe the slave. Not to mention the possibility of a revolt.

With credit card debt, the companies peacefully recieve interest money and fees with little or no risk.

The only difference is debtors let their desires trap them into debt.

In elementary school (80's), we had the choice of background for our school pictures: traditional, lasers, and the other one. The other one was a black background with the subject looking in to the camera, but there was a little profile picture of them in the corner, looking off to the side. What were these called and where can I find one?

I have been playing the clarinet for about 4 1/2 years now and i've been using the same clarinet >__> because I was not allowed to purchase a new one. Now my parents will let me buy a new clarinet but I don't know how to choose one. Which clarinet brands give smooth tones and are better and easier to play with? My friends have told me that Buffet Clarinets are pretty good but I don't know which model to get...XP.

Why do they refuse solidarity?

Why must each shot become such a thing?

I love writing poetry, but all my poems are free handed. Meaning I don't rhyme them or count out the syllables for lines.
I recently became a member of this poetry website. And a lot of the people there are always talking about the number of syllables in this line don't fit with the line under, or the rhyming scheme is wrong, or the stanza, or inversions, or inverted syntax, and etc. And I have NO clue what they're talking about! But I would sure love to know so I can become a better poet. So can someone please clue me in on this writer/poet talk and what it all means? Maybe give me a few pointers to writing better poetry?

People talk about rights in this country at great lenght. I have come to realize that I take exception to the notion that everyone's rights are sovereign. And I do realize that there are times when the rights of the one, are outweighed by the rights of the whole. However, The right to disagree has been trampled upon at great lenght without so much as a whimper. Now I, as a Black Man in this society, have some perspective with regard to alternate points of view. I actually respect the right of 'certain members of society' to feel that I am 'less than an individual'.
Which brings me to my point. What is it about society that has brought about the notion that a persons right to disagree is only valid insofar as it doesn't conflict with the 'politically correct' view of the population at large? And also, why is it that a particular point of view is seen as 'politically correct' when it clearly does not reflect the views of the popular majority?
