Seems to me, if the 80-20 rule applies, probably also a 90-10 rule applies.

Do any of you have a problem when you convert your DOC file to the PDF file? Like, your chapter numbers can be at the bottom of one page, and your actual chapter would be on the next. But when you look in your Word processor, everything looks fine?

If you found a way to fix this, please tell me!

I'm about to quit LuLu all together here pretty soon.

Many stereotypes exist concerning Cherokee Indians. Contrary to popular belief, not all Indians or Native Americans lived in teepees and rode on painted horses as they are depicted in many of the old western movies. Native Americans from different parts of what is now the United States lived in many different tribes.

Ok, so I'm pretty new to Philosophy. I took my 1st course in philosophy a semester year ago and is totally blown away by it. I'm planning to major in it but then I was brought up in an environment where science and basic skills like English and Math rules. I'm not sure if I'll be any good at abstract subject like Philosophy.

Anyway, sort of went off topic. So what qualities are needed to become a "good/successful" philosopher? What does it take? (I put good/successful in quote because those terms are not well-defined and probably means differently to everyone.)

Thanks for answering! Have a great day!

I wrote this yesterday, and I think it could still use some work. It's different from my usual style but...here it is:

MIRROR

Mirror, mirror dashed from the wall,
Your glass is broken, for you were false.
You called a beast a beauty rare,
O! Flattery ruined both you and her.

She knew herself, and asked you yet
If beauty was her's, and so you said.
Now you sprawl in shards on the ground for your lies,
And feel the hot rain, her tears, as she cries.

She weeps for the dark so fast closing in,
For vanity, pride, and many a sin.
Mirror, mirror, with tears dry and cold,
You weep for yourself, she weeps all alone.

Both broken, one hopeless, you brought on your own grief,
One for your lies, one for self-deceit.
The beds you have made you must now lie upon,
And wish for a dawn that may never come.

This has probably been asked before, but given the popular choice for writers to use present tense, which do you prefer when writing a short story or novel? Do you write mostly in present tense, reserving past tense for flashbacks and historical narration (family history, etc.) Do you prefer to write in present tense even though the story's events have already happened in the narration? Do you prefer to stick with past tense, not bothering with present? And if you write in present tense, how do you deal with gaps in time passage (ie: when finishing one scene, you decide that the very next scene thakes place two weeks later)?

Here it is:

New York, June 22d, 1804.
Sir:

Your first letter, in a style too peremptory, made a demand, in my opinion, unprecedented and unwarrantable. My answer, pointing out the embarrassment, gave you an opportunity to take a less exceptionable course. You have not chosen to do it, but by your last letter, received this day, containing expressions indecorous and improper, you have increased the difficulties to explanation, intrinsically incident to the nature of your application.

If by a ?definite reply? you mean the direct avowal or disavowal required in your first letter, I have no other answer to give than that which has already been given. If you mean anything different admitting of greater latitude, it is requisite you should explain.

I have the honor to be, Sir

Your Obedt. Servt.

A. HAMILTON
