13th Century - Wales incorporated as part of England following conquest by Edward I

1603 - Union of Crowns of England and Scotland under James I & VI

1707 Act of Union of England and Scotland, abolishing Scottish Parliament, in the new country of Great Britain

1801 Abolition of Irish Parliament and inclusion of Ireland in United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland

1922 Irish Free State established - henceforth we have United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Note - the offshore islands of the Isle of Man and the various Channel Islands do no form part of the United Kingdom, but are crown dependencies.

wales was subjected to english rule by edward I. llewelyn ap grufudd was killed in 1282, and the statute of rhuddlan was issued in 1284, but the countries of england and wales were not politically united until the act of union in 1536, under the tudors (who had welsh blood).

the crowns of scotland and england were united on the death of elizabeth I in 1603, james VI of scotland becoming james I of england. the countries were not united politically until 1707.

the act of union with ireland was in 1801, but the south regained independance in 1922, becoming the irish free state.
