There are Viking graves located in the area of Red Bay Labrodor dated around the year 1000 A.D.; there is also a Basque Whaling station located at Red Bay which was built decades before Columbus.
Alledgedly Egyptians, Phoenicians, and two Irish Priests sailed to the Americas hundreds of years before Columbus.

There's also a story that an exiled Welsh Prince, called Madoc, made it to America in the 6 or 700s. For a while some believed that there were Native American languages derived from Welsh, unfortunately this is amost definitely totally bogus!

Actually the first Europeans to come to America where what we now call the Native Americans. Originally they had to cross an Ice Bridge from Europe/Asia to get here because at the time, they were hunters and gathers and their food was crossing the bridge to escape the freezing North. They had to travel almost all the way to modern day Florida in order to find warmer weather.
