KHUN SAMUT CHIN, Thailand (Oct. 20) - At Bangkok's watery gates, Buddhist monks cling to a shrinking spit of land around their temple as they wage war against the relentlessly rising sea. Jutting above the water line just ahead in the Gulf of Thailand are remnants of a village that has already slipped beneath the sea.

Experts say these waters, aided by sinking land, threaten to submerge Thailand's sprawling capital of more than 7 million people within this century. Bangkok is one of many of the world's largest cities at risk of being swamped as sea levels rise in coming decades, according to warnings at the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change held here.

I realize that kids will be kids, but where do you draw the line of "He's just a kid" or "She's just a kid"? Shouldn't kids be required to take responsibility for their own actions at some point in time? I have seen people in public and I know people that take of for their kids and even make excuses for them, knowing they are in the wrong.

For example, I was in Wal-Mart the other day and there was a boy that was about 5 years old. He was walking down the candy aisle and just began to throw candy bars on the floor. Then he started knocking down the small bags of candy that were hanging on the racks.

People were staring at his mother and everybody was floored that she would allow this to happen. She grabbed him by the arm and said "What is everybody looking at? You never seen a kid do this kind of **** before?". I thought, what kind of crap is that? Instead of her scolding him and asking him to pick the candy up, she's taking up for him.

Moms (and dads, sure, your opinion is valued as well), I genuinely need your feedback on what I should do here. My oldest son, who I love dearly, is in Army ROTC in college, graduating this year. He is a top student and top cadet, and is really looking forward to going active duty as an officer.

The problem is, he has a medical condition he's hiding that would disqualify him from being on active duty.

What do I do? Say nothing, and hope the Army finds out on their own? Drop a dime on him and get him out of there? I'm really torn on this one. I should add, it's a medical problem that wouldn't affect his ability to serve at a desk job, but if he gets deployed to that hell hole across the way it could get him hurt or killed.

I'm really upset about this, and value all advice, thank you.

Do you think if young Jewish girls on Israeli television declared “We want to fight”, “We will annihilate the” Muslims, and “I will commit martyrdom” killing Muslims [3], we would sit back and do nothing? How DO you think we would react?

These are all things Muslims have stated in mainstream Islamic circles (including children’s television programs…) about Jews. Do you think we would react differently? Do you think we would be less passive, unconcerned, and apologetic if this was what the Muslims faced daily?
