Be the light in the darkness. Every time they say something negative - counter it with a smiling, positive response (other than "It could be worse"). The best counters are completely off the subject. Sample:

Negative person - "I hate this job - coming in here everyday makes me sick"

You - "I went out for dinner last night and had the best burger on the planet! What did you have?" Don't even acknowledge the negative comment, but by making a statement that changes the subject you are showing that you aren't ignoring the fact they they spoke.

OR

Negative person: "I never vote - my vote never counts and all the candidates are interested are themselves. They're all alike - besides who want a woman for president?"

You: "I'm really looking forward to the Holidays this year - we are planning a really great Christmas." (even if you aren't) Don't rise to the political bait! You can't win - and will just get frustrated trying.

The worst that can happen is that they will start ignoring you, or counter with another negative-ism, which you again counter with a positive-ism; the best is that your positive attitude will be contagious.

Not easy, takes practice, but definitely do-able! Good luck - and, have fun with it!

Put the shield of the white light around you. I know it sounds corny but it works. You must meditate and alleviate t he negativity that surrounds you. Also believe it or not ,try to send out little pink clouds of love. I am serious. You have to imagine so much that you can actually visualize it. It really works. And this is not mumbo jumbo.

Be super duper happy around them to annoy them for thier equally negativeity.

Or take yourself out of situations where your around those people.

Life is to short to hang with negative people...even if it means getting a better job or not seeing friends and family as often.

I would try to get away from them if it were possible. If I absolutely could not, then I would think good thoughts. I would probably throw some "funny" comments there way. I would also hope that maybe some of my feelings would rub off onto them. I also want to note, that I to am "sometimes" in that category. We all have our bad days to.

Negative people are still people. We just have to live with not sharing their views if they contradict ours. In fact, don't you think they consider us negative people, too, since we don't agree with their views as well?

I have had your problem. It seems to me that the only thing that affected that person was acting totally unfazed.
