I have two credit cards, one with my name as "Daxia Fu" and the other with my name as "Da Xia Fu," both with the same address. When the two credit card companies go to report my credit to Equifax or another company, would both credit histories go on the same file? Or would they go on different files?

One of the credit card companies doesn't have my social security number (at least I didn't give it to them when I applied) and the other is a credit card from my bank (I don't remember whether or not I gave them my social secuirty)

Have you checked your credit report (AnnualCreditReport.com)? Get a copy and see if both cards appear. It is likely that your credit file will show both names.

You would be wise to correct whichever one is wrong with the credit card company.

They report by SSN. However, when they do a search, there is usually something that comes up saying "possible match" so the one that doesn't have your SSN would then go and manually look for your other profile.

Having said that, what shows up on your credit card is input manually by a human being-- so it may not be that you have two credit reports anyway.

It's not the name, it's your social security number.

I have Steve and Stephen and Stephen h. They all go on the same credit report under my social.

They report by SSN. Nonetheless, I think you would be better off correcting your name with whichever one's got it wrong.
