An organism, as part of its population, has a niche. A niche is specific role and way of life of each population of individual species. It depends on how you wish to look at the system as to how you define the niche.

The biosphere has several ecosystems, one of them is a wood, the wood has several populations, one of them deciduous trees, these trees have several organisms or individuals, one of them is an oak, the oak has several cells...........
The ecosystem wood influences the tree, the tree adapts to it.
The tree influences the wood in p.e. producing oxygen for the animals, another population of the wood, related to your question: the organism tree is a PRODUCER.
Having a balance in the whole system, our world can be happy.
