This is a serious question, not a malicious one.

It seems to me that many atheists (not all) hold science to be the only form of genuinely true knowledge. Science in this case being that which can be measured, weighed, observed, tested, etc. (Philosophically it is called empiricism).

However, it seems to me that those whom claim this are not aware of the contradiction they are making. To claim: "science is the only valid or true form of knowledge" is not itself scientific claim. We cannot put the value of scientific knowledge itself "under a microscope" as it were. We cannot evaluate the value of scientific knowledge itself, in any material way. Don't those whom hold that scientific knowledge is the only valid form onf knowledge necessarily exclude the value of scientific knowledge by their strict restriction of "valid" or "true" knowledge?

Thoughts?

My brother was injured on a job site. His leg/knee/foot was injured. He slipped on an object that should not have been where it was. They can prove this object was there before the incident and after the incident...but oddly, not the day of the accident. Most are workers afraid of testifying against their boss. But, there are witnesses that have recently come forward to say it was there. Anyway, a day before the witnesses came forward, my brother met with his lawyers. They were trying to "sell" the case to another law firm--larger and well known, top 10. This new group will have a meeting to see if they want to "investigate" the case...to see if they want to TAKE the case. My question is--what does that all REALLY mean? Should my brother try to find a new lawyer? In the meantime, my brother cannot work and is running out of $. He also needs surgery...which will put him on another 6 months of therapy/disability. Advice??

I know that he cannot afford to spend a whole lot of money on a ring. I don't want a huge massively expensive ring. He thinks I am just saying that to be nice. I think that any more than .5 carat is way more than enough. He asks me at the jewlery counter which one I like----- what do I do?

We live with my fiance's mom with our new born son. We are trying to catch up on bills before we get our own place. I dont work right now because I am breast feeding for 6 months then I will go back. When I go back the agreement is that his mom will watch our son along with his sisters son. He is a little over a year old. The thing is that she doesnt actually watch him. He is always getting hurt and today we had to take him to the ER because he fell down our whole flight of stairs. Luckly he isnt hurt too bad. We will have our son in his bouncie seat and when she isnt paying attention our nephew will come up and try and hit him in the head or pull his legs. She is much more concerned with cleaning the house then watching the boy. I am literally terrified to leave our baby with her especially since she cant even pay attention to the one she is already watching. The thing is, since my fiance has heard horror stories about day care he doesnt want our son going there.

My baby girl is 5 weeks old and started w/ colic episodes @ 3 weeks. She has been changed formula 4 times and is now on nutramigen, with milk of magnesia in 2 bottles a day for her constpation issues, and mylicon drops w/ every feeding. She did not tolerate even breast milk w/ strict changes to my diet. 6pm-12am (atleast) are the worst and she looks like she is in SO MUCH pain. However, car rides and sitting her in her swing with the vacuum running right next to her will quiet her everytime. So, is she really in pain during these episodes because I would think that if she was, the simple act of running a vacuum wouldn't quiet her. All her symptoms disappear when you do that, but the minute I turn it off she balls up again, turns red and screams. So what gives? I will feel so much better if I knew she wasn't really in pain, but everywhere I read it says colic is caused by gas and it's painful...any thoughts?

one of my neighbors lets her little dog do whatever it wants. it runs in the middle of the street and almost gets hit many times a day, almost bites people, chases school kids and scares them and to top it off, she doesn't let him poo in her yard. She lets him go out in the neighborhood where it crawls under fences and poos in people's nice yards and barks at them when they try to sho him away from THEIR own yard. She's been reported many times and plays it off like "well I'm just an old lady and he's too fast" but I see her let him do this! Is there anything that can be done?
