I don't know what happens to people when they die, and I doubt anyone else does. But you bring up a very interesting point, since the "New Agers" include both those who believe in reincarnation and those who believe in spirits with whom communication is possible - clearly both cannot be true. Having been "contacted" on two separate occasions myself, I guess I'd go with the latter, even though I consider myself a Buddhist. Reincarnation has never been the focus of my interest in Buddhism anyway - karma is, and one does not even need to die to experience it. And tending to one's karma is closer to the purpose of life than worrying about what happens after life ends...

You can certainly talk to the dead, but whether you'll get an answer is questionable. I think we will find out about the after death soon enough. Don't rush it!

I think you should decide for yourself what is true. Your opinions, thoughts, and feelings are just as valid as anyone else's. I know it's a lot of reading and thinking and living to find answers, but that way it will be real! Be your own guide. Let God lead you, not some organization. I'm old enough, and I've been seeking and trying long enough to know.

not everyone gets reincarnated right away. According to some experients when people went through hypnosis *sorry for my spelling
they remembered things from their last life which was supposedly like 500 years ago or something
I believe in reincarnation, pondering Buddhism and Christianity

Hebrews 9:27 " And it is appointed unto man once to die , after this the judgment ". The soul of an unbeliever lies dormant till the last day ( Judgment Day ) The people who are paid to talk to the dead are using the power of Satan . They are an abomination to the Lord .

Andrew A gave you the correct answer. It is written that the dead know nothing. Neither do they love, hate, or anything else. They are just dead. They await judgement, as does anyone that has died.

my personal beliefs on this is that not everyone reincarnates .. and even when they do it may not be for some time
which gives enough time for the possibility for any spirit communication
I call myself Spiritualist as this is the closest to my own beliefs
however not every Spiritualist believes in reincarnation due to this very question
so it is a mix of religious and personal beliefs for me based on my experiences and studies on the subject

Talking to the dead is no different than talking to someone alive, or to a rock or fencepost. It's all possible and even easy.

You can talk to the dead but you are never going to get a response. After death, there is nothing, nothing that those still alive can factually know.
