I tend to like alternative classics like JD Salinger and Robert Pirsig, but starting this book has already ventured into vomiting and bestiality - things I'm just not interested in being exposed to. Why is this regarded as a modern classic? The prose isn't especially brilliant, and the main character rather grotesque. I can't really understand why Walker Percy found its beginning stimulating enough to find out it is a "great" novel. The rant against modernism was ok but will that be enough to bother going on? I'm only about 30-40 pages in.

There's an abandoned house across the street where I live. I have always suspected that there was people breaking in the house and today I actually saw someone going in. I fear for my safety because I come home sometimes very late at night. I would like something to be done about this house but I'm not sure how to go about it. Please help!

Describe how the Christian church brainwahses Its members, I am sure you have some idea of the Mo the church uses, I can tell you the mormons use to use this MO when I was a mormon ,but the chirstians do not use it, therefore, I do not see that I am being brainwashed, mind controled or indoctrinated:
Satan controls those that are not members of the LDS church, Satan is after me, Gid is nothing more then Big brither and watching me all the time. The netweork set up to make sure members do not stray and other tatctics to keep members intact.

Our community is having a "neighborhood weekend" in a couple of weeks. My wife volunteered us to show an eveving movie projected on the side of our house.
The children are from 2-16 years old. We're asking each family to bring a blanket and we'll provide the movie, drinks and popcorn.

I have seen a lot of crossover shows. My all-time favorite one is with Hercules: The Legendary Journeys & Xena: The Warrior Princess. Another good one my favorites are involving Bruce Timm's Batman: The Animated Series, Superman:The Animated Series, which both of them then became Justice League & then Justice League Unlimited. Those were great shows. What were some of your favorites? You can also list some spinoffs.

people looked at almost everything in wonderment and awe, and proclaimed how awesome God is to have created all this for us.
Science comes along and has been able to "explain" all these wonders for us so that they are not wonders at all anymore, but rather the logical order of things.
Science also says God doesn't exist because science can't prove He exists, or perhaps it is beyond our ability to prove He exists, so God is pushed out of the picture.

My observation is: When God gives us things we can explain, we say it's the natural order of things. When God gives us things we can't explain, from the everyday perplexities of life to His teachings, etc., we then question His existence.

My question to those who disbelieve: As to the existence of God, what would need to occur for you to believe that He does exist?
