for hurricanes? What is significant about those wind speeds such that 39 mph is the lower threshold for tropical storms and 74 mph for hurricanes? What's the difference between, say, a 73 mph tropical storm and a 75 mph hurricane in terms of their effects? It just seems from a layman's perspective that those wind speeds are arbitrary, but I figure there must be some reason meteorologically that 39 and 74 mph are considered the lower limits for tropical storms and hurricanes. Any meteorologists out there who can shed some light on why these wind speeds are the cutoffs for tropical storms or hurricanes?

For me, what a man should take from feminism is that the duty is not just to protect women from the mugger or rapist hiding in the bushes, but from the abusive spouse or partner, and from those who would seek to deprive them of educational and professional opportunities and control over their own bodies.

Listening to what women have to say means being better informed out the sorts of protections they want and need, rather than assuming on your own what's best for them.

I am sure that some will call this protectiveness "sexist" while others will try to say that, with social changes pursued by feminism, women have forfeited the right to such protection.

But as far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter society says, it doesn't matter if it's appreciated or praised, any decent man should feel protective of women and should act accordingly.

I've had enough with seeing these "American by birth; Texan by the grace of God" stickers. Many Texans I've met seem to have a superiority complex towards people from other states, thinking of them as being lesser Americans. The truth is that the history of Texas is the most un-American of all: a bunch of Americans moved to Texas, then under the control of Mexico still, and renounced their US citizenship in order to get Mexican citizenship so they could live and work there. They then broke free from Mexico and existed as an independent republic until the US had to come in and annex them cause they couldn't make it on their own. In other words, the Republic of Texas was a nation founded by traitors both to the US and to Mexico, and then they proceeded to seceed from the union less than two decades later. How much more un-American can your history be?

Dear legal luminaries

Advice only as per Indian law:

One of the Society President indulged in violation of bye-laws blatantly. But he is being supported by 9 out of 22 EC members who are his friends and own relatives.

I have the the proof on three occasions, for violation of bye laws by the President and same being supported by his men.

My intention is to break the monopoly, blatant violation of bye laws, fiefdom and autocracy just bcos of having own people as members and also in the EC (executive committee), by moving the court to get a stay against the President and his coterie from contesting the forth coming election. Do i have sufficient grounds to take up this fight??

Only legally qualified persons answer pls-- as I do want directions to proceed with it accordingly. Others can advice if consulted w/advocate. This is not a Q for askng sake but an incident in real life.

I will take up the case in Chennai.

Thanks in adv for the persons who are going to guide me.

I'm so disgusted with my hair. I just hate it. I hate the texture and the way it lays. It's unhealthy and I don't know how to fix it.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a wig. Can people tell? If I get a really good, human hair one, the same color as my own, will people know that I have a wig?

And how do you get a really good one? Our local wig shop only sells synthetic ones, and I don't think they are that high quality. If I order one online, how would I know that it was going to fit right? How do you buy a wig? How do you take care of them, and how do you wear them right?

Thanks.

I just started college and I am in desperate need of a laptop. I think the Turion processors are better but which one is really the best? What about the GHz? Does higher speed mean it draws more power? I've tried to find the difference between all those processors so if you can give me the best answer you win.

It's true that some interpreters (verbal) are also translators (written), but the distinction should be made, shouldn't it?

(I'm not putting down EITHER!!)

After all, you don't even need to be literate in the particular language to be an interpreter, and the skills involved are very different. At the same time, translators don't need to be able to speak the language intelligibly - for instance, Ancient Greek, Egyptian or any other dead language.
