Recently a friend failed before she got in the car as she could not read the numberplate of car at start of test.

I mean anyone about to take a test who is obviously terrified may read them and think "gosh i would never do those things so i will pass first time" they will also make sure they do not do the mad things others did. I find it amusing and i appreciate that others may not.

I have never had to take a driving test to get my license, but I have a few ideas of why you could fail:
1) Not stopping completely leaving a parking lot and entering a street.
2) Keeping your hand on the shifter instead of returning to the steering wheel, even on short shifts.
3) Failing to put on the seatbelt before starting the car (safe as long as it's on before you put the car in gear).
4) Not using your turn signals at every time that you are supposed to.

ha ha i failed my first drivers test too!! i came up to a 4 way stop, where a tree was covering the sign, and i drove right through it. I was so upset, but even my mom didnt see the sign, and she was mad at the instructor! Then the instructor hadd the guts to say he has failed a lot of people at that same spot for the same reason, that is the reason he takes people down there.
I was at my sons football game yesterday, and behind the stands in the school parking lot, i watched a girl fail her test, and seen her crying, she was so scared. I felt bad for her, and thought he could have been a little nicer to her.
I think they like to make people scared, so that way they fail and have to pay to take it again and they make the money, its just wrong, but there is really nothing we can do to change that.

i failed the first time because i was nervous and didn't give way...... almost wrote my car off while i was at it!!!!
but the 2nd time i passed thank god
i think there should be MORE notes on why you've passed/failed... not just them getting to play tick a box and booting you out the door...

I failed my first one due to taking too much care and attention to other cars and pedestrians - he said i was over cautious!!
