An AP story quotes Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of Sen. John Edwards, as saying the following, “I don't know where it [Republican hatred of Hillary Clinton] comes from. I don't begin to understand it. But you can't pretend it doesn't exist, and it will energize the Republican base. Their nominee won't energize them, Bush won't, but Hillary as the nominee will. It's hard for John to talk about, but it's the reality.”
Everything that Mrs. Edwards says in that quote is true. Everything. Including the part about it being something hard for Sen. Edwards to talk about. That’s the theme of the Edwards campaign. When there is something that requires backbone to say, let Elizabeth say it instead of John.
