Assuming you are a juvenile, you will probably get away with whatever you got busted for or he knows your parents and your gonna have your @$$ handed to you when you get home.

Or behind door #3 he will fill out a field encounter report and your name and other info will be put into the investigative stats computer and they can cross reference any other encounters with you in the future and dtermine if there is a pattern is forming as to your actions.

He didn't have enough to arrest you so he called in for a wants and warrants and will probable do a FI card [field interview] so if there is a problem in the area later he has a record that you were in the area

You are lucky! The Police-Officer just wrote your name down for future Reference. Just in case he "catches" you again,'smile'.
When he called your name in to the Station, he was checking if you had any Warrants outstanding.

a police officer has to have probable cause to stop and cause beyond a reasonable doubt to arrest-so if you are in an area and are stopped a FIR is filled out this is a field interrigation report--you were here, time date, etc if anything comes up wrong you could be suspect--at a later date or he just wants to know who is in his district at that hour and why--by the way-- why did he stop you to begin with??has to have a cause to stop usuallt plates, bald tires speeding etc-,

We could give a more specific answer if you explained WHY the officer wrote down your name and told you to go home. Without details, you got off this time, but don't expect to get off next time.
