In my experience with lucid dreams, the control is minimal at best.

Honestly, you will only be able to affect the general outcome of events. You have to understand this when you try it. Having something very specific in mind won't work out so well. It has to be very general from the start.

First, while you're laying down, get comfortable, and then decide on what you want to begin with. Lets say you want to be a princess. Well, start out that way in your head.

You would be a princess, walking through the hallways of your castle. The trick is really keeping the thought going as you get comfortable and fall into sleep. People that don't sleep well often carry their worldly problems with them to bed and fall into sleep while they're thinking about them. They get a haunting experience instead of relaxation. It's exactly the same thing here, except you have to have no other intentions or thoughts wandering around in your head other than the daydream that you're a princess (or whatever).

Eventually, you'll fall asleep, and that seed will take a root in your mind. It will continue to produce the dream as you set the parameters. Though you might not like the outcome.

You will be vaguely aware that you are in control, but you might not know how to influence the events at first. It will have a certain flow of events. It will start with what you want to happen, and that will happen just fine, then it will throw a curve ball, and that won't be unpleasant, so you will allow your mind to keep going down that road. That would be a mistake. You have to keep control through the entire thing, or you lose control of the ending.

Like a wildfire, your dream will go from your princess life to one of murder, betrayal, and random figures that you will only half-remember in the morning if you don't keep things in line the entire time.

It's an interesting experience overall, but not one I would do so often. It's not restful sleep. Afterall, you've been doing things all night long, though the time is compressed or extended quite oddly. Actually, I'm not sure time even exists to the mind inside of itself. *shrugs*

Of course you can control your dreams! That happens when you have lucid dreams. The only way to control them is to be very aware when you're dreaming and look for something weird that let's you know you're dreaming.

When you tell yourself you are dreaming, the fun will start and you will be able to control who appears, change the scenario, and even wake up. But you gotta have a lot of practice and become very skilled at lucid dreaming to succesfully achieve all of that.

Go to sleep telling yourself that you are gonna dream. And when you're finally dreaming just become very conscious about it, as I said before, look for facts that tell you so: things that don't look the same in real life, places you've never been before, places or situations you recognize from another dreams, or simply silly situations you know wouldn't take place in real life. Another thing that works for me, is to remember everything I dreamt of the night before, every little detail and situation, that way if I dream something similar again, I'll be able to recognize it and lucid dream.

It's as simple as that, you just gotta be a good observer when you're dreaming. Once you recognize any of these facts and find yourself saying 'hey! this must be a dream!' then you'll be lucid dreaming. As I said before, it requires a lot of practice, but if you do, you'll get it! ;)

Good luck and sweet lucid dreams! Cheers!

i've done this once! unintentionally of course. you have to be half awake while you do it. like maybe at 6 am, when you're tired but you have to wake up, you're half-conscious and can decide what to do in your dream. it's really hard, but possible!
