Nietzsche argues that in the end there are two types of morality systems: hero ethics and slave ethics. Hero ethics represents the hero mentality of ancient Greece and Rome, where the virtues take pride of place and are centered on the strong man who conquers, the warrior who achieves great glory and fame for himself.

By contrast, slave ethics comes to us from the Jewish and Christian traditions where love of God and service to others is of paramount importance. Here, the golden rule holds sway and others are just as important as you.

Ego is represented in the hero ethics, and if we all adopted this path there would be complete chaos and mayhem. By contrast, if everyone lived according to slave ethics there would be no conflict.

Thus, ego is not only my worst enemy personally, but also it is our worst enemy as a society.

Are you talking about ego as in "pride" or Freud's concept of ego? I take it to be the "pride" one.

To be frank, I have found ego to be more of my friend than enemy. To be sure, being egoistic can lead to self-destructive behavior, but the way you deal with your pride, your ego, is what determines if it will be your enemy or not. If you let it be a backseat driver of your actions and have a life of its own, then better shove that ego out of the car and speed away. But if you treat it like your shield, then you can crash the car onto a reinforced concrete wall and you'd escape unscathed, alive to tell the story of how you shoved your ego out of a speeding car.

Just the opposite-it is your best friend. Without it you are defenseless it what can be a cruel and unfeeling world. Knowing the limits of your ego is what is important. Greed, pride, lust, envy are all examples of out of control egos. It is up to you to control your ego like the reigns on a horse or the brakes on a car or bike. Getting a feel for your ego also opens the doorway to a keener awareness of the true nature of reality and our roles in it.

Unfortunately the falsity of that declaration is not concretely self evident like a principle in physics. You could have easily said the ego is your best friend, and it would have equal validity. The ego is what it is and it does not stand nor operate alone in the Rational system. If anything, misrepresentation is our worst enemy.

I think the the ego tends to effect people by what they have or even their status.

Say you have a man who's room is cluttered with degrees. Now you have another man who has one. Which one do you think will have an ego problem?

Because ego is I or 1. This world is better served with we or 1+. Everything you do has an impact on somebody else's life. So there is no "just" me, it's "we" that matters.

Ego tells you that you are alone in the world. If you're alone in the world, you're the only important thing in it. That gives you license to be cruel and treat people badly.

Because ego focuses on what you did to me and it focuses on everything negative in my opinion. Love on the other hand focuses on who you are and it does not focus on pain.
If the leaders in this world did not focus on ego there would not be so much pain in the world.

Far from it. To know ones value is liberating, to underestimate your own worth is self destruction. I work with it all day.

To not know your self worth leads to depression, self mutilation, and 90% of problems. at the very worse Body Dysmorthia Disorder.
