Yes, actually it's VERY BAD. The baby is not getting any of the vitamins, minerals or nutrients that she needs from the formula. Baby oatmeal is ok for a five month old, but it needs to be mixed with formula. Also, your stupid friend is putting her baby's brain and eye development at GRAVE risk, because there is not enough fat in just straight oatmeal and babies need fat. You need to call child protective services on your friend before she does serious harm to that baby.

Oatmeal is not bad for the baby, but the sugar may be too much sugar for the baby.
Your friend is harming her baby's teeth by not giving it formula. All humans need to drink liquids. If the baby is not given water or formula or other liquids this will be really bad for the baby's health. Insist that she call her pediatrician and discuss this. She should get the word from her pediatrician.

At 5 months the baby is old enough to start weaning, but with say baby rice, mixed up with formula, or proper baby food. Formula is made to be a subsitute to breast milk, and has lots of added vitamins and goodness. The sugar will make the baby very ill indeed. Babys should avoid any added sugar or salt. I would seriously talk to her and make her see sense, and if she doesnt then get child protection involved as the baby is in danger long term.

Oatmeal does not have the same nutrients as formula so it could be bad if that is all she is feeding the baby. Formula is a balanced diet and simple enough for a baby's immature digestive system. I wouldn't recommend it, but I don't think it will harm the baby either.

Absolutely. Oatmeal cannot possibly offer the child the best formula of vitamins and iron. Why does she do that? Was the child lactose intolerant or something? No, this is not good for the child. He needs to be on formula, even as a supplement to oatmeal in a soupy form fed with a spoon.

The baby is missing a lot of protein and nutrients when she replaces formula with oatmeal. Breast milk or infant formula is supposed to be the main food in a baby's diet for their first year of life.

That is VERY BAD for the baby!
That baby needs the nutrition in the formula.
Oatmeal does not have near the nutrition that formula does.
She will seriously harm that baby if she stops giving it formula now.

That is not good for the baby.
Formula/breast milk is the best for a baby.
I'd talk to your friend, because that poor kid is going to have diabetes from all the sugar.
And it's not going to give the kid the proper nutrients.

Of course it is bad for the baby! Why isn't mama breast feeding the child? This baby needs calcium badly for development of strong bones and teeth. I would report her to child protective services for child neglect.
