I'm just wondering cause i don't see how the seller can make any money with that low of a selling price.

For example i'm looking at this action figure thats selling for 99 cents but the shipping is 10 dollars. And also theres this laser pointer that starts at 1 cent with a shipping of 20 dollars. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me. Any thoughts on that?

Well you see, the shipping doesn't ACTUALLY cost that much. When people get on ebay, they often look at the cheapest item and going up in price. So when people see the action figure for 99 cents they go 'ooo that's nice!' and they think it's a good deal. It is an eye catcher. So they bid on it, and buy the item for "10.99" (including shipping.) However, shipping might cost 2-3 dollars (depending where you ship it to). The shipping is just a built-in price so the item doesn't go too low, but the item still appears to be a good price.

If you want the actual shipping for an item, they won't set a price like that. It would show "get shipping price" instead. If you see something like that, it just means they have a built in protecter.

The seller makes up for the fact that the item is cheap by raising shipping and handling charges. It usually costs, at most a few bucks to ship something that is 1 pound or less. So, the low price draws you in, and you don't really give shipping much thought when in actuality, that's where the real cost is.

That's called Fee Avoidance. Sellers do not have to pay Final Value Fees on shipping. They pay only for what the item sold for. So, if an item sold for 99cents, they would only pay the FVF on 99 cents not how much ever they charged for shipping. It's against ebay policy and can be reported.

Check out the sellers feedback comments. is that price the start of the bidding ? - look at the bid price close to the closing to get a more realistic price. One more thing is that selling price is usually paid by buyer and there is a fee to post items and receive payment by paypal.
