Is she not the most self-important and puffed up TV personality? Her audience always glowing with exaggerated praise of her pretentious acts of generosity and middle-brow wisdom.
"God whispers..." PSHAW!!
"Pay it forward!" BLECHHH!
"Julia ROOOOB-EEEERTS!"

The way I see it, Oprah is GM, is Disney, is GE, is Macy's, is Billy Mays in an easy-to-swallow capsule; a billion-dollar spokesmodel on an infomercial that sells lifestyles.

Or am I just being cynical and blind to the greatness that is Oprah?

When I met my boyfriend 6 years ago, we were both very very thin. We have both gained weight over the years, which is a given since we were 17 when we met. His weight has constantly gone up and down but stays mostly up. I like to eat healthy and exercise. my health is important to me, but my b/f doesn't seem to care about his. he has been at his heaviest the past 1 1/2 years and the other day he ate 6 Mc Donald's hamburgers in one meal. I find his eating habits disgusting. He has no energy and never wants to go out. when I try to get him to eat properly he gets very defensive. Im afarid that he will develop diabetis since it is common in his family. I have become unattracted to him sexually and I get bored sometimes because all he wants to do is be on the computer or watch tv and eat. He has low self esteem and a quick temper. I love him and don't want to leave, but I don't know what to do to help him without hurting his feelings. I have tried everything.

My brother wants to follow us around and kind of come at her like running a stop sign, to see how she'll react if she almost gets hit. I also thought maybe I'd yell something while she was driving like LOOK OUT - even if nothing bad is happening.

Perhaps tell her "turn left at the next stop sign" when I know it's actually a one way, and left would be the wrong way - just to see if she's really paying attention and would do it, or would look carefully first.

I just want her to be really ready in real-life situations, not just some nice pleasant unrealistic driving practice?

Thoughts?

My tank is fairly new, but lately I have had it! I mean, the ammonia is high, the water is cloudy, etc etc. I do partial water changes nearly everyday, I added Clear Water formula stuff, I've vacuumed my gravel, I'm doing it all right but it isn't working! I love my tank, but it drives me nuts!

Can you share your stories about when you had times like this (and hopefully had good endings) =)

I am told that chemistry has not been reduced to known elementary particle physics. Usually, we would say that the problem is that the equations are too complex. I am curious to know some simple examples of this difficulty. The simpler is the atom or the molecule in the example the better it is. It would also be interesting to know a property of a complex atom or molecule that we have reduced to elementary particle physics, but it is not what I ask, though it is closely related.

My motivation to ask this question is to get a feeling for how much "evidence" we have that it is only a problem in solving the equations. If we have succeeded for *all* observed properties up to some reasonably high level of complexity (in the number of particles/atoms) and it is seems clear that there is nothing special in the next step except the additional particle/atom, then it is good "evidence" that it is just a problem in solving the equations. Otherwise, maybe there is a more fundamental problem.

Hi, i've been married for about 6 years now and I feel like I'm in prisoned by my wife. I'm a homebody. I don't go anywhere or do anything just the daily routine of work and coming home. But on the weekend I want to explore the city and maybe just get away, I only stay out for about an hour or so,but whenever I do return home my wife gives me the fifth degree "where have you been" in a mean tone. I told her that I really feel like I have no life, I can't go anywhere or do anything by myself unless she knows my whereabouts every second of the day. I noticed that she has changed over the past 6 months since she has started a new job and has gained a lot of lady friends, I wonder if they are feeding her bad info about men in general. Help I feel trapped.
