My wife and I are selling a two-family home, one unit in which we have also lived for the past seven years. We plan to purchase a one-family home. Our capital gains will be about $400,000. We plan on using this gain as the down payment for the new house. Is this considered a 1031 exchange? Will the sale of the two-family home be considered just capital gain because it is our primary residence?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This is something I find really weird.

Twice now, in the last week, I've had people take me to task for not being aggressive enough toward muslims.

To my mind, displaying hatred toward them will just make them hate even more. That's what people like Bin Laden thrive on. He was spoiling for a fight with the west for years. He knows that the best way to build up his following is to poke the west into attacking muslim countries.

9/11 was without doubt the most shocking event in my lifetime. All those responsible SHOULD be brought to justice.

But the problem with building up hatred toward muslims, is it just pushes them to be more influenced by the radical fundamentalists.

Don't Americans become even more patriotic when they see someone burn their flag? Dosn't the hatred displayed by muslims fuel American hatred toward them?

At some stage, this cycle needs to be broken. Establishing a diplomatic dialogue is a great way to breakdown barriers of fear.

Some stats would be most helpful, but would appreciate considered / evidenced opinions too, even the circumstantial type. :-)

my brother offered to buy my weekly groceries for me because i'd just moved in and he wanted to give it as a house warming gift. however when we got to the supermarket he kept on telling me that i'd the allowance to exceed my usual grocery bill due to the fact of him paying. he repeated this several times without me rewsponding with an answer. however i proceeded to collect my usual cheap shopping list. he felt upset as if i hadn't listened to him and mentioned the purchase of some ready, microwave meals. when we observed them they were to high and i proceeded to place them back and not buy any. then he slammed the freezer door in the meals were kept in , in the supermarket in protest.
i then refused to allow him to proceed to buy my shopping and placed everything back on the shelves.
did i do the right thing. i felt over insinuated by his reaction of dominating me with him buying the groceries. his protest was disrespectful to me as a person, not respecting my right to choose?

Hi. I've just bought home a 7 week old Jack Russell and having read up on feeding puppies many sources say to "soak the dry puppy food" - but none of the say exactly how to do this.
Do I soak it in water (warm?cold?), How much liquid do I soak it in? How long do I soak it for?
If anyone could give me any advice, it would be most appreciated.

My elderly neighbors would likely buy the groceries but I would bake, or prepare, package and deliver for them to freeze and reheat. How would I charge as there is only Government programs in town but nothing comparable. Besides, those program used subsidies and the meals are high in calories and starches. No special diets would be involved yet that is not a problem if they purchase the groceries themselves. Any one else direct me to other comparable organizations? I am in Iowa and will be checking Dept. of Ag. regs. as well.

Can someone explain these lines of code? This program is for generating temperature of ten locations. I’m learning Array and having difficulty to understand some things.

public class WeatherFan
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
//Temperature Array
float[][] temperature = new float[10][365];

//Generate Temperatures
for (int i = 0; i < temperature.length; i++)
for (int j = 0; j < temperature[i].length; j++)
temperature[i][j] = (float)(45.0*Math.random() - 10.0);

// Calculate the average per location
for (int i = 0; i < temperature.length; i++)
{
// place to store the average
float average = 0.0f;

for (int j = 0; j < temperature.length; j++)
average += temperature[i][j];
// Output the average temperature of the current location
System.out.println("Average temperature at location +"
+ (i+1) + " = " + average/(float)temperature[i].length);
}
}
}

Explain temperature[i].length and temperature[i][j] in these lines. I’m having difficulty to understand [i] and [i][j] what will these lines do and how will? Please explain these.

for (int j = 0; j < temperature[i].length; j++)
temperature[i][j] = (float)(45.0*Math.random() - 10.0);

Two men decide to go to a fancy dress party dressed as a cow.

Taking a short cut across a field, harry in the front of the cow hears a noise and says to fred in the back end -
"Hey Fred, there's a bull charging towards us"
"What are we gonna do?" says Fred
Harry says "Well I'm gonna nibble some grass, you'd better brace yourself!"

I was watching Howard Stern TV this morning and caught Michael Moore's appearance on it from a few days ago. During the interview, Moore complained that our military leaders are so incompetent that they cannot secure a single roadway in Iraq for the past 5 years, whereas we completely defeated both Germany and Japan within 2 years.

My immediate reaction was that it's people like him who are preventing us from fighting wars any more like we did in Japan and Germany!

Take a look a pictures of both countries AFTER our forces went in there. THEY ARE DESCIMATED. THEY ARE LEVELED. Not a single building remains intact. Hundreds of thousands of people are dead. It's total destruction and ruin. THAT'S how you fight a war! And THAT'S exactly what people like Moore won't allow us to do any more! We're now fighting wars the way they insisted that we do, so that no one gets hurt, and it clearly doesn't work.

Do you agree? Would Iraq cease to be an issue if Baghdad was levelled?

Don't you see feelings are only feelings, it doesn't mean you should act on them or they're correct. If a woman in an abusive relationship is convinced her man loves her, do her feelings not betray her? And if here feelings can betray her, why can't your's betray you?
Furthermore, I see guys who play on this, teling women all the things they want to hear(oh, you're so beautiful, you're the only one); just toying with your emotions to manipulate you for sex. And they got 5 more just like you, but that's Ok, because you feel he really loves you? Yeah, right.
I'm very disappointed with the whole relationship lie of our society if you can't tell.
