This is something I find really weird.

Twice now, in the last week, I've had people take me to task for not being aggressive enough toward muslims.

To my mind, displaying hatred toward them will just make them hate even more. That's what people like Bin Laden thrive on. He was spoiling for a fight with the west for years. He knows that the best way to build up his following is to poke the west into attacking muslim countries.

9/11 was without doubt the most shocking event in my lifetime. All those responsible SHOULD be brought to justice.

But the problem with building up hatred toward muslims, is it just pushes them to be more influenced by the radical fundamentalists.

Don't Americans become even more patriotic when they see someone burn their flag? Dosn't the hatred displayed by muslims fuel American hatred toward them?

At some stage, this cycle needs to be broken. Establishing a diplomatic dialogue is a great way to breakdown barriers of fear.

Offering a better education to muslim youth is the best way to keep them from joining fundamentalist groups and strapping bombs to their chests.

Keeping military operations under the UN flag keeps them from being able to point the finger at the USA, or the west, alone.

Oh if only more people thought like you!!!

hating an entire group of people for the acts of a small group of derranged fanatics only risks driving the moderates of that group towards the fanatics...

what so many haters forget or don't consider is that many moderate muslims have also suffered at the hands of the extremists....

thing is it seems our society needs to hate SOMETHING/SOMEONE .. :( it makes some people feel better or superior

hate an individual IF you must ...I can accept that .BUT a whole people :( ... it isn't logical.

EDIT: LOVECHRIST ... you are exactly the example of what is being written about ... DID you know there is about 8 Muslim Chaplans serving in the USA army .. do you not defend them ?
sure have issues with SOME muslims as you can have issues with SOME other people .. BUT ALL MUSLIMS . .for pete's sake That is VERY unchristian of you.

EDIT #2 an.t_christ ummm Missing link isn't questioning anybody's hatred of TERRORISTS .. so don't be so damn stupid and insulting to other people here by making comments along the lines of saying Link should be diplomatic with the terrorists...you just make yourself look foolish.

Your observation concerns me too. As a Muslim I'm familiar with what indicrimnate hatred could lead to (ex.9/11). Extremists are the only winners in these cases. We Muslims are warned not to become extreme no matter what:

5:8 O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

Those who give in to extreme voices only contribute to the problem and complicate it as well.

some seem to forget, or aren't aware of the shiit that america has dumped on the middle east and other countries.
in some ways its little wonder some countries see america as a threat. doesn't excuse terrorism at all. but terrorism comes in many forms.
all civilisations in parts of the world can live a totally different reality, limited to their exposure to information.
it is in no way a simple or fair issue though

It is not Islam that is causing the hate. It is terrorists and haters of the west that are using propaganda to turn those that claim to be Muslim into terrorists. It was not Islam that caused 9/11 but instead it was terrorists that claim to be Muslim that did the damage. Of course, there are the simple minds swayed by western media into believing it was actually Islam itself that causes the problems. It is akin to believing the gun caused the crime instead of believing the person loading, aiming and firing the gun caused the crime.

This is a Good question, about a real problem.

I beleive open discussion channels will lead to more understanding between each other.

We should't deffrentiate between people depends on their beleives. The right to choose should be respected.

You don't get it. Let me see if I can make this clear to you. Muslims are just like Christians they are delusional. Radicals read in their little Koran that Islam will destroy all other religions and they try to make that happen.

No one is hating Muslims. We just don't like the fact they are not fighting this war with us. They may not all be helping the terrorists kill innocent women, children, and men. But they sure as hell and doing anything to stop it.

Muslims have a responsibility in this and they know it. Which tell me although we don't participate in terrorism we don't mind if it happens.

Religion has done nothing but promote hatred, war, oppression, sexism, hatred towards gays, slavery, and genocide.

I don't care what delusional rationalization any religious believer makes. Religion is the problem. It is a cancer to our species.

If you think we should be diplomatic with them. Get off your computer go find some terrorist and start being diplomatic. When I watch a video of you being beheaded I will know that you finally figured it out.

Great question and I agree with you!! It's so easy to hate when learning about someone is just as easy as walking over and asking a question.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I agree with what you are saying! Since when did people start thinking that hating a specific group of people will solve things?

Friend, I agree to your good points. First of all we all muslims 1.499999 billion have one voice that is to be heard and but media loves the voice of 0.00001 or our society whome we ourselves are fedup with.

Our voice is here in small microphone while terrorists voices are transmitted through CNN & BBC etc.etc.
