my brother offered to buy my weekly groceries for me because i'd just moved in and he wanted to give it as a house warming gift. however when we got to the supermarket he kept on telling me that i'd the allowance to exceed my usual grocery bill due to the fact of him paying. he repeated this several times without me rewsponding with an answer. however i proceeded to collect my usual cheap shopping list. he felt upset as if i hadn't listened to him and mentioned the purchase of some ready, microwave meals. when we observed them they were to high and i proceeded to place them back and not buy any. then he slammed the freezer door in the meals were kept in , in the supermarket in protest.
i then refused to allow him to proceed to buy my shopping and placed everything back on the shelves.
did i do the right thing. i felt over insinuated by his reaction of dominating me with him buying the groceries. his protest was disrespectful to me as a person, not respecting my right to choose?

Oh dear it sounds as though you both overreacted. You because you were probably stressed from the move and also because you did not want to appear to be taking advantage of his kind gesture. He because he thought. you were throwing his gift back in his face.To answer your question I don't think either of you did the right thing. What is important now is to put it right which means talking it out between you.You shouldn't fall out with your brother over something like this or he with you.
TALK TO EACH OTHER.
Good luck.

you need to sit down and talk to him again, take him out for a movie bring him on a good mood and then explain slowly why you feel something isn't right! Knocking sense in him will do you great in the long run!

Sounds like your bro wanted those meals for himself! Some people do cook! He could have bought something for the house.

Yes you were right whilst I am sure his actions were well intended it is not right of him to treat you in such a fashion.

Try not to be so hard on him he clearly loves you he just needs to learn to respect you as an adult.
