Islamic official seeks removal of mufti

The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils' (AFIC) legal adviser says its controversial mufti should be removed by abolishing the position.

The federal government and opposition have called for Sheik Taj Aldin Alhilali to be sacked after his latest reported remarks calling on Muslims to back Iran's hardline regime.

The AFIC appointed Sheik Alhilali as mufti in 1989 and last year suspended his salary.

Last week, it said his future would be decided by the National Council of Imams by June.

But honorary legal adviser to the AFIC Haset Ali said his organisation should decide the cleric's fate.

"The federation was the organisation that appointed a mufti," Mr Ali told ABC TV.

"I believe that the federation has an obligation on it to bring that situation to a sensible end and say that there should be no mufti for Australia.

"I think he's placed himself and the community in an impossible position and if the man has any sort of dignity he will bow out now."

Mr Ali said Sheik Alhilali did not represent the thinking of the majority of Muslims in Australia.

"I certainly believe that he's taking us on the wrong path and I believe we have to speak up against that and I, as one of the leaders, am totally opposed to going down that track."

AFIC president Ikebal Patel called for a more cautious response.

"I would urge the greater Australian community to give the Australian Muslims time to sort through this issue," Mr Patel told ABC TV.

"We don't want to do this under the cloud of political pressure because that will not in any way help the greater Australian community in the long run."

That the engine is ruined. We have 16,000 left on our loan and now have to pay $6400 for a new engine. It is just out of warranty, we have had it for exactly a year. Any suggestions as to what we can do?? No engine lights, no warning anything was wrong.. This is not right!! Dealer is pretty much saying, yeah it sucks for you, now fork over the big bucks. Basically, my computers completelys f#c!ed ( sorry but its the best word to describe it. Its jam-packed with viruses, unwanted files that have somehow downloaded, its ridiculously slow and im going crazy with frustration. What I want to do is completely wipe my hard drive and start over again. PLEASE HELP :(

my husband lost his mother at age 3..last night we were talking about us having children and he began remembering his mother...he began crying very loud and moaning for his mother.

I felt so sad for him i told him its ok to cry it out..but he told me that he never cried for her until now (he is 27 yrs now) and that all his family told him since he was growing up not to cry about it.. to be strong...

my question is am i right to tell him he can cry about it or is his family right to tell him dont cry?

I drink a lot of water every day. But I have to put a few slices of lemon in the cup or squirt in a little bit of lemon juice. How good is this for me? If I don't add lemon I find that I drink not even half the amount of water as I do with the lemon? So is it worth that little bit of lemon in my water, just to keep me drinking that good old H2O?

I am part of a band called Transparent. Or at least I was. The band is falling apart. Our lead guitarist had a manic fit and cut himself then was going to kill my sisters boyfriend. Many people from many different religious traditions have “profound”/life changing religious experiences. Yet Christians view these experiences as, at best, nonsense and at worst, the lies of some sort of evil entity.

How can you say that another persons religious experience is pure garbage while claiming that your own are pure enlightenment?

a while. (not cigarettes) I myself am very against this. I have caught him doing this a few times, and it makes me feel like he does not love me. we have been together for 14 years altogether. He did do this b4 we got married, and he said he would quit. I get very hurt every time it happens. i don't think its worth getting a divorce over, but i am not sure what to do.....

Any ideas??? when we get into a fight about it, he says he is sorry, and that he loves me and wants to be with me. I just don't understand. Othe than his he is great. (husband and father)
