Fords come with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. If it’s a 06 then you should still have a year on it unless you have more then 36,000 miles on it you never told us how many miles. I am sorry if you have more then 36,000 miles on it. It is out of warranty by their Policy. However if you call the 800 customer service number you may be able to get the engine and work for about half of the cost. Other wise it may be best to take it somewhere else and have a different shop do the work. It would most likely be more cost effective. They will rebuild the existing motor where ford will install a new one and send the old one back. Contact the 800 number and see what they are willing to do (with their current financial position they may be willing to do just about anything to keep customers at this point.) If they are not willing to do anything then take it to a different shop and have them do the work. You should be able to get it for about half the cost.

Ok first off, I would not advise doing this engine swap at all because it's not economical or worth while. With that I will answer your question: Yes it's possible to do this swap. Technically you can swap any type of engine from 1 vehicle into another but the problem comes in with if it will fit and how your going to connect that new engine up with the existing transmission and other components. In your case you might run into a space issue. That 5.8 motor is bigger & made differently than the 5.0. The 5.8 is economic for general transporting and hauling things. The 5.0 is engineered more for performance. This explains the difference in HP. The 5.0 is probably going to be quicker regardless. Price wise this would probably involve alot of custom connections and welding to fit it/secure it properly. This can be very expensive. I recommend you use any money you have/the money from the van to look at acceptable motor swap w/ newer model mustangs which will make your car quicker and more powerful AND will be easy to install and get running.

06 out of warranty already? How many miles did you put on it?
If there is no coverage, cheapest way is find a junkyard engine (the van never changed for the past X years) and fit that in. You want one from a van that had severe rear end damage, so you know the engine's fine. Maybe 1500-2000 installed, depending on condition of engine, cost to pull, and cost to install.
If it's out of warranty, don't go to dealer, they are expensive.

I would call the 1-800 number in the back of the owner's manual. Talk to the customer service guy in Detroit. There has to be some reason why the engine is ruined. If you did the maintenance, kept fluids up to the proper levels, and the mileage is not too much over the limit, maybe they can do something for you.
do call the 1-800 number,

i own a shop and it isn't right but right now at this point you have a decision to make because you know there not going to repair it so you can either have it repaired or sale it or replace that engine with a good used one there are several options here,i think the warranty should cover it myself, because its an 06 model, but there isn't many things you can do in a situation like this except have it fixed, that's about it,i wish you luck with it.

first of all what motor is in it and how many miles is still on the van? The best thing to do is to go to a salvage yard and find one that has low miles on it and have them demo it before you get it and then have that put in the van, you can get a motor and wire harness and computer for around 1200

an 06 out of warranty?.... you can get a new long block for about 1200 for a v6...with a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty (online or at advanceautoparts.com) cost will be about 750 to 1000 to get it installed... DON'T GO TO a DEALER for this type of work! (or any other for that matter)

And that's why you don't by FORD, because Ford is a simple acronym for Found On Road Dead (or Fix Or Repair Daily)This is how Ford takes care of their buyers, probably why the company is going bankrupt.
I've never seen an acronymn for Chevy.
