Maybe people just didn't like it, but perhaps.... a)FRIENDS fans resisted it, because nothing could match it in their eyes b) those who didn't like FRIENDS (sad people) weren't willing to give it a chance. Personally, I don't think it was bad, but it wasn't good either. It was just OK. However, I think that while FRASIER has succeeded because many are confused by the references made in it and don't want to appear dumb, the opposite is true of JOEY. I don't think it was a "smart" move to base a show around such a character. He was fine as part of a group, but was the least interesting character because of his stupidity. Phoebe had no real history with the other friends, but she managed to have an interesting and vivid back story, while he didn't.
