Maybe people just didn't like it, but perhaps.... a)FRIENDS fans resisted it, because nothing could match it in their eyes b) those who didn't like FRIENDS (sad people) weren't willing to give it a chance. Personally, I don't think it was bad, but it wasn't good either. It was just OK. However, I think that while FRASIER has succeeded because many are confused by the references made in it and don't want to appear dumb, the opposite is true of JOEY. I don't think it was a "smart" move to base a show around such a character. He was fine as part of a group, but was the least interesting character because of his stupidity. Phoebe had no real history with the other friends, but she managed to have an interesting and vivid back story, while he didn't.

For the same reason that all the spinoffs from Seinfeld (George, Elaine and Kramer) - all their projects failed miserably. When you are in a tighly formed group, where the show is dependent upon each other so much, when the others aren't there, it crumbles.

The reason Frazier has worked as he was not "part" of the gang. He was still looked on as an outsider due to his education ... they made fun of Fraizer more than they brought him in as a close and trusted friend. He was the one they "kicked" when they got tired of kicking Cliff.

First of all, I don't hate Joey the actor--I am just saying what I think things are. I somehow noticed that many people (I suppose ladies) had a crush on Joey. But truth be told, he did not have the quick wit of neither Chandler nor Rachael--not even close. So many actings of Joey can be done by many other actors, because Joey's acting did not have that much of intellectual rigor. For example, there were many interesting scenes when Joey and Chandler talk. I'd say many people can do what Joey did--acting surprised, stupid, etc., which are very basic acting, but not many can come up with Chandler quick wit comments. Ladies liked Joey first not because he was funny but because he was a manly figure, and very often, if you like someone, the very mundane becomes excitement. So the misjudgment created the illusion that Joey can do a show himself just as great as Friends. The truth is, Joey was just an average actor in Friends. Once Joey start to do things himself, without the support of other friends, Joey quickly showed that he was only mediocre.

Yeah, i know what you mean, "Joey" wasnt an awesome show, but it had just started and it really wasnt bad either, it had some really funny episodes. I´ve always liked Joey cuz lol even though he´s dumb n all, he´s a pretty sweet guy and a good friend..just like all the "Friends" characters i guess... Either way, i would have liked to see it continue, cuz it was a cute show and it was nice to be reminded of the "Friends" world.

Just my opinion though. :)

He was great, the show had lousy writers, they should have left him in New York and he carry on after the friends went their way, occasionally bring one in like Phoebe. Have him wait tables in Central Perk in between him trying to get a gig and go on to a better job like the Russian Tea Room and get discovered while he was serving big shot TV executives, there were many ways to go.

I'm no genius but I enjoyed Frasier and I didn't watch it just to keep from appearing "dumb." People were confused by the references??? I disagree. People watch TV in the privacy of their own homes and if they don't like a show they're not going to watch it. Period. Who are they going to appear dumb to anyway... themselves and the family dog? I have never heard of something so absurd.

Joey was a show I did not enjoy. The plots and characters were too superficial for my tastes. Good riddance to it.

I think theyshould have just let the whole thing end. It was great while it lasted. Spin offs rarely work. You are right, Joey was a good character, but they didn't develop him enough on the show. I think Ross was my favorite. He was quite complex.

It was ok to watch. Not that if u missed it you'd miss something amazing. Maybe they were trying to hard to reach the level of "Joey" when he was on "Friends" & maybe they failed..

Friends made Joey so without the friends he did not exist.

I think that "Joey" was a failure because he was the comic relief on "Friends" and just couldnt pull a whole show off by himself...
