OK we have all heard and probably used the old saying: "It's the thought that counts."
And it really is supposed to be the thought that matters. But when you get a really horrendous gift from someone that should know better - don't you ever think - " i know it's the thought that counts - but just WHAT were they thinking?"
Like this year i got a kleenex box cover that is just gross to me, not my taste and anyone who knows me would know that i would find it tacky. OK i can say it's the thought that counts - but the more i think about it the more i wonder - what the heck they were thinking?
Does anyone else ever feel like this? Am i being awful? Can a person appreciate the gesture of a gift and still be boggled by the actual gift?
Do you have a similar story - please share the story AND your reaction.
Thanks in advance.

My pet peeve is when a girl is very flirtatious with you and then you start to like her. All of a sudden she finds out and she tells you she has a boyfriend. whats up with that? Girls i know thats akward for you guys but it kinda hurts our feelings. it be better if you said how you really felt.

I am an Indian and I am in love with a westerner. All my family are against it as they think I should protect Indian culture and traditions and not lose it by marrying a foreigner. But the person I love is very open minded and has no problems in me following my culture and traditions. My family does not believe this is possible and they prefer me leaving him. I do not want to let my family down and marry without their consent. At the same time, I do not want to forgo my love and do arranged marriage. Any way out ?

I've gone into to my account signed in with password went under address contact information edit made changes... pressed finished... it shows updated information on account, however when sending mail it still shows old name under sender... I'd really like to change it... does anyone know how? I've even restarted the computer and still nothing... I've even checked after a few days still doesn't change? What am I doing wrong? Or is it even possible. I'm not talking about the user Id... it is the name under the contact info... so if I send you an e-mail... it would be the name that you would see. Thanks

I have always been very regular with my time of the month thing. Start and stop like clock work. Now I have big blood clots and cramps so bad it feels as if I'm going to start herouraging to death or something. I spot in between, which is something I have NEVER done since I was a 12 yr. old (& started) I have always been emotional so I'm not sure I'm much worse there. Has any other ladies had these same type problems? Thanks Tam

This is an example of the trick played by language on thought. Please try to give a thouhtfulresponse. You might with some luck stumble upon a very crucial, but elementary access to the theory of the structure of the world of numbers as we understand them. Please give it a try;good luck.

I am so confused since alot of the fishes are tainted with high levels of mercury. On the other hand we are told to eat more fish to prevent heart disease and certain cancers.

I guess my response is I can understand it if she did it on purpose, but if she did it on accident then you should let it go.

I came into the year new into highschool. I asked her out to homecoming. She seemed delighted at the moment to say yes which she did. After saying yes, she told me through internet, a message, no. She would ask me if I was mad and I would truthfully reply no.

She later sent me a message two weeks later saying she would try to fix whatever is wrong. she then told me she liked me at the moment. and her original excuse for not going with me to homecoming was that she promised her 'girls' already.

then her second excuse after trying to fix things was that she didnt know me. once again, she told me she liked me though.

why did she say yes, then no, help me out, particulary a woman.

Students of philosophy - with some rare exceptions - typically leave the university with a suspiciously uniformed set of beliefs:

-That questions of metaphysics are to be solved on a practical moral basis at best.
-That pre-socratic philosophers, and sophists in particular, should be discredited and that no effort needs to be made in understanding their thoughts.
-That philosophy's ultimate role is to organize the natural sciences.
-That rationality and empiricism are the only acceptable modes of philosophical enquiries.
-That there is an obvious difference between objective experiences and subjective ones.
-That every valuable thought is communicable.
-That all texts can be read in abstracto of experience.
-That progress exists, and that philosophy can be shown to follow its path.
-etc..., etc..., etc...

Could university philosophy be an endoctrination?
Has something gone wrong in the way philosophy defines itself within academic institutions?
