It should be kept when the Queen is on official business, similar to 'Hail to the chief' being played in the company of the American president. We certainly need an English anthem. Land of Hope and Glory is good, though it smacks of jingoistic Conservatives. England by the Angelic Upstarts tends to lose accuracy by using the line 'There'll never be any colours like the red, the white and the blue' in its chorus. Three Lions is great but would need to be rewritten to take the theme away from football. Maybe Jerusalem's the best bet. As for the United Kingdom (as opposed to Great Britain), I Vow to Thee my Country could be ideal as you could be Scots, Welsh, English or count yourself as simply British in your thoughts when singing it, whether about British Unity or your individual country. Even the Ulstermen could sing it under that logic as the Republicans and Unionists could also sing it with pride whether the former are singing about Ireland or the latter singing it about Britain.
