I am moving from Boston to Houston next month. I am starting at Rice and have never been to Texas before (crazy, I know). Any pertinent info?

I really don't understand what the big deal is about Texas. It is dry, flat, ugly and has the fattest people!!! It is too big and doesn't have enough nightclubs or entertaining things to do. So why the pride about Texas? Especially Houston.
