I'm curious because my friends are writing letters there to pen pals they made and I decided to do too. I know I could use e-mail but it can't work that way....

So anybody know?

Or a 24h manga cafe?
Pay all the hours you stay in, sleep there overnight and pay the overnight fees, months after months? Or will they kick you out for staying too long?

I will be traveling to Tokyo and would like to know where I might be able to rent a cell phone for calls within Japan and possibly to the US. How much should I expect to pay for a phone rental and where is the best place to to rent the phone? What would the per minute charge be for calls within Japan?

I have an old address and phone number of a friend in Japan I lost contact with about 6 years ago. I tried sending a letter and it was returned, I called and it was a different person. So I am sure that my friend moved. Now that I am in Japan I really want to meet. Is there any way to find my friend? Maybe the city office where they lived can tell me where they moved to? I searched the name through yahoo and google but found nothing. Thank you for trying to help!

is pokemon still popular in japan?? I'm not being racist, but they keep coming out with new pokemon cards and stuff in the us, but i dont know anyone personely that still likes it, so it makes me wonder, who buys it?? Then I thought, that there are alot of people who move here, and vacation here from Japan(at least where I live), so maybe they buy it. I'm just curious, I never really got into it, but I see the stuff all over.

I'm going to Jouchi Daigaku (Sophia University) this year and I'm leaving in a week. I'm wondering what I'll need aside from the obvious. I spent some time in Japan when I was in High school, and in Japanese high school I needed a Uniform, a pencil carrier, a lunch box, and slippers (sandals really.) I don't knwo that anyone who's reading this just happens to go to that school, but my dormitory is called nishi kokubunji and I'm a foreignor so I'm assuming my classes will all be in the faculty of liberal arts at the yotsuya campus, if that makes a difference. I'm wondering especially about the slippers, because when I was last in Japan, in Osaka it would be really rude to wear my regular shoes inside of some places, but not others and I always needed someone else to tell me when I needed them. Help? Other advice?

Where might I find some food focused tours in Tokyo? What I have in mind would be a walking tour of sorts that would take people to food markets, shops and restaurants throuout Tokyo. Since I don't speak Japanese, a tour in English would be important. Any tips, links, etc... would be appreciated. I would even take some tips on neighborhoods to focus on for a self guided tour.

I have heard that if you are at fault it is customary to give a gift to the victim(s). This was a simple rear-ending (less than 10km/hr), but I would like to give some expression of my regret for the trouble I caused. What is good to give and what do you write?

I rear-ended someone, the police took my confession then said have a conversation with (a) the driver of the car - he wants to send me the bill and (b) the passenger of the car who says she has injuries. I have only the compulsory-level of insurance. Will it cover her injuries? I and the driver had no injuries whatsover, just surprised, but the lady is saying she has/will have medical costs.

I couldnt re-word the question so it doesnt sound ignorant but here goes:
Ever since i told my coworkers that i would be moving to Japan ive heard so much B.S. about how they react. The Japanese women love black men, some say they hate Americans, some say they are indifferent. I heard if you speak Japanese their your best friends for life, and the exact opposite. Pretty much no one has a clue. Having been here for a little bit i dont know if im paranoid but i feel a certain dislikeness towards me when i go into stores....is it because im American or black??!?!?? And does Japanese men like black women????

In November I hope to visit Tokyo...I will probably be based in Ochanomizu.

On my first full day, what part of Tokyo do you think I should visit first? Where will give me that feeling that thrill of being in Tokyo? Shunjuku? Shibuya? Roppongi? Ginza?

Following that, where else should I visit in the days beyond that?

I'm a college student about to attend a university in Japan for one semester. I've been doing research on these three questions, but I can't seem to find a satisfying answer for any of them.

1. Can I purchase calling cards here (in the US) to use in Japan? Or do I have to purchase calling cards once I get there? Which country will have the best rates to offer? And if I do purchase them here, are they called "International Calling Cards" or something specific?

2. Is opening a bank account difficult? I have to pay rent in cash every month, so is it wise to bring all my money in traveler's checks and then use ALL the traveler's checks to start the account? I want to know the easiest way to manage my money.

3. What's the easiest and/or safest way for my parents to send me money?

I only have a student visa, not a working visa. So because I won't have a job, I will have a set amount of money I'm bringing with me. I'd appreciate any websites or advice that you have. Thanks!
