I couldnt re-word the question so it doesnt sound ignorant but here goes:
Ever since i told my coworkers that i would be moving to Japan ive heard so much B.S. about how they react. The Japanese women love black men, some say they hate Americans, some say they are indifferent. I heard if you speak Japanese their your best friends for life, and the exact opposite. Pretty much no one has a clue. Having been here for a little bit i dont know if im paranoid but i feel a certain dislikeness towards me when i go into stores....is it because im American or black??!?!?? And does Japanese men like black women????

I am black and has lived in Japan for over 15yrs. I decided to live here after 2yrs as a marine on Okinawa.

I have lived in Osaka for 14yrs. And i can honestly tell you that i NEVER encountered any racist japanese. Yes there are many who do not like foreigners..whether black ,white or just NOT japanese... The reason why to have a negative reaction is that they really honestly do NOT know how to communicate.. They have no clue on how non japanese live. They assume the worst. In japan all foreigners are guilty until you prove your innocense.

I started my career here from the lowest. I worked in a steel factory, back then NO FOREIGNERS were working there. I was the first and i was black. I worked hard and studied japanese and moved up the ranks. Now after 10yrs in this industry.

I have the distinct honor of being a General manager of the whole factory. I am one of the few, that made it up this far.

Actually , it was not easy. And my skin color was NEVER an issue.. Yes, being NON japanese was always an issue and it will always be.
Once they get to know you for who you are, you will have some good friends(REALLY GOOD) for life. Sometimes a japanese friend will help you out more than your family. The road ahead here will not be easy and straight. Just remember one word."gaman"..it means patience..and you will needs loads of it.

As for the japanese guys , they love foreign girls...be prepared to be pamper...but , as they as say..you gotta hook up with the right guy....freaks are everywhere..even here

GOOD LUCK

I'm Japanese and I have a cousin who married a black man. My parents along with hers are from Japan and at first they didn't like him because 1)Different culture (both fro American and Black, 2)Racial profiling and stereotyping. But it was only cause he was different after a while they all got used to him.

I'm black and have met several Japanese while training to become a pilot.
All of them in their early twenties coming to California for flight training, and all of them speaking english.
Have not run into ANY problems with ethnicity-their language yes-but not ethnicity.
Made some really good friends out of them, and they like cars and anime so its not that hard to mingle.

if you have blonde hair this will naturally get bleached by the particular sun in the summer. There had been this guy in my class who had golden blonde hair that was a medium brown near the bottom part. When he came back to school after summer vacation, it was practically platinum blonde!
