I'm not that great uder pressure, and in group class karate i practically fry when trying to do those complex techniques and end up getting yelled at for screwing up. Its like no matter how hard I pay attention I just cant get the movese through my head. Like when I try to do it, especially in front of the teacher, I'm just like "Ummm... What do I do first??" Any suggestions for things i can do to help myslef?

I'm practically 15, 5'9 inches, 175 pounds (that's majority of muscle as I have a muscular body build.) I have great leg power and considerable arm strength. I'm pretty calm in most situation even violent ones. I'm flexible and I'm durable. I want a practical art. I think of myself as a striker, but peers have viewed me as a grappler so I want an art that is balanced. That includes striking, dodging, grappling etc. This includes an art that emphasizes strength, aglity etc... as well, but also emphasizes on technique as well. I really don't care about weapons, because you won't really find them in a real fight. Some flashy techniques is a plus (since I want to have some fun when I spar etc....), but it is not a requirement. Anyway I can't go far, so my zip code is 92880. Can anyone help me. Oh my email is nunembi@yahoo.com. (If you want more info) If you want the ten points, you better write reasons why it's the the best choice for my abilities.

Also, what are the main differences between them. Don't they employ throws and takedown moves? Also, don't they both have grappling? Does Jiu-Jitsu have a stonger emphasis on grappling and Judo on throws and takedowns?

Background: I used to do Muay Thai, briefly, but I had a bad temper and took it outside the gym. I left Muay Thai and took Aikido for it's philosophy and flowing movement and found that it's been helping me. i plan on going back to Muay Thai, but only every other Sat. to help with strikes and kicking and hopefully be able to incorporate it.
I posted that I switched from Muay Thai to Aikido on another forum and just got trashed for it. "Aikido F@CKING SUCKS." and I was someone who was role playing at martial arts.
If you're going to insult me, at least make it interesting and funny? I know that's going to be hard, try to keep the personal attack to a minimum.
Thanks

I was due to start Aikido on Saturday but I got to the Dojo just after the ritual to O Sensei had ended as the aikidoka stood to begin the warm up.

I turned around and left thinking that it would be disrespectful to assume I'd be allowed to join in, that it was an awful was to make a first impression and very conscious that I wasn't aware of dojo etiquette.

I have every intention of going back next saturday, an important lesson learned.

Did I do the right thing?

It doesn't necessarily have to be the fastest and most powerful punch and kick ever, because that probably hasn't been measured. Thank you.

I remember when the Gracies ran little bitty ads in Black Belt magazine. They ran those ads for years. No one really cared about BJJ until Hoyce started choking people with his gi in the early days of the UFC. Now, beyond question, BJJ and Gracie Jujitsu have become one of the most popular styles in the world.

My question is this; how does BJJ compare to Professor Wally Jay's Small Circle Jujitsu?

I have limited experience (though some) with grappling arts. I'm interested in everyone's perceptions, MMA's, Traditional Karate, etc etc.

I look forward to some great answers!

I train in Aikido. We, from time to time, compete in s.d. in our local state tournaments. I am always approached to be judge for kata and sparring. Everyone knows me and knows I do not train in kata or sparring and quite honest have no clue about either of them. Are they so desperate or is it just that easy. To have someone who knows nothing to judge. I have said many times that most of these karate mom's know more about kata and tag than I do, have them judge. I know 0 kata and haven't point sparred since 1990. I don't think that I am qualified to be a judge for these things. Am I wrong? I focus on Aikido and other than that I focus on real life combat mma, Bjj, kali/escrima with my aikido. Nothing here, I believe, qualifies me to judge kata or sparring, I do neither of the so why do they keep asking me to judge?

I take taekwondo, and I got my black belt in about 3 and a half years. I have a feeling that this was kinda too easy. How long did it take you to get your blackbelt? I've been in taekwondo for 5 or 6 years now and I'm a second degree black belt.

Physical or mental do martial arts matter or is it down to just animal determination, I myself am a former jiu-jitsu coach, bouncer but my own father was a boxer and very successful street fighter and unbeaten so is the mental edge the main advantage inspite of training.

Your thoughts please !!!!!!

I would say Bruce Lee (100%) myself, because he was the silent fighter, he had inner strength as well as outer, had brilliant fighting techniques, Jeet Kune Do is amazing and he had REAL trained muscles.
But, I would love to hear any opinions, thanks.

What martial arts style is based around using the weak points on the opponent’s body when the opponent is attacking, moving, or defending? I'm not talking about pressure points, but using the opponent’s movement against them? Lets say the opponent were to take steps with the right foot facing forward and you attack a specific point on the body to harm the opponent or make the advisory immobile? Also the style uses the environment to his/her advantage and uses specific attacks pending on the opponent’s size, weight, and body type against them; during specific times of the day, week, or year?

I was thinking Tai-Chi, but I wasn’t sure.

I've been having some trouble with my front kicks...we practise slow motion front kicks, so holding the leg straight up in front, feet flexed. Im higher than parallel to the floor but I cant seem to get higher after ages trying. I do yoga and stretching every day and martial arts too.
Most of my body is very flexable but just the back of my thighs and pelvis seem to be too tight. Sometimes when doing forward bend I have some pain in the back of one of my legs, sometimes my chest is on my knees-no problems.
What can I do everyday to make my front kick higher and to loosen up the backs of my legs? My legs just seem to heavy for me to lift any higher ad it's quite frustraiting!!
Is there any vitamins that can help with maintaining flexability or keeping the muscles more relaxed? I, mean like oils or something?
What do you think.
Thanks.
