What strategies or styles do players use to win a hockey face off? It just seems pretty random, with both players just trying to swipe the puck to a teammate as soon as the ref drops it. However, some players seem to always win much more than half the time (Joe Thornton comes to mind). If you are a former player (I'm not) can you tell me what you are thinking when trying to win a face off?

Can they dump Scott Hartnell? Will any team pay that kind of money for him? What is he getting paid, like 4.2 or 5.2 million? I can understand having a slow start, but this guy sometimes struggles skating.

What can they do to fix that left wing?

I am meeting Walter on January 1st.

i am pretty excited, him and my dad know each other because my dad was really good friends with Wayne growing up.

it is actually a public meet, BUT my best friends sister works at the store, and we get to stay behind and talk to him and stuff.

if anyone wants anything autographed, just message me, we can work something out.

btw, Wayne isn't going to be there obviously, only Walter.

He's ripped into Mikka Kiprusoff, one of the best goalies in franchise history. Iginla is working his *** off game after game, but Flames continue to lose. Dion Phaneuf looks burnt out and uninterested; he played very poorly on the Westcott OT goal against Columbus.
Calgary is currently 13th in the west, but Phoenix and LA can pass them if they win their games in hand. I think Keenan won't last past Christmas if Flames don't do better.

I had to attend a formal gala this weekend. I did not watch the Lightning game, and they won. Someone at the gala had suggested, I need to take a break, because you can jinx a team by watching them all the time. This was coming from a guy that plays hockey in a local amateur league. He said he had not seen any Ottawa Senators games for the first 5 weeks of the season, and now that he is watching them again, they are losing. He added that he has gone months last season, not watching the Senators (his favorite team), to prevent being a jinx, which is common amongst his friends.

Crazy talk, I say. It is just silly to think that watching or not watching a game can change the outcome. It MAY prevent you from seeing your team lose as much.

Have you ever heard of this madness? Is this common? Do you think that he was pulling my leg?

Who was the better player for there team at there respective positions? Here are some close comparisions i put together. I only took the time to do the original 6 teams.

Steve Yzerman vs. Gordie Howe for Detroit

Guy Lafleur vs. Henri Richard for Montreal

Phil Esposito vs Pat LaFontaine for Rangers

Bobby Hull vs Stan Mikita for Blackhawks

Ray Bourque vs. Bobby Orr for Bruins

Darryl Sittler vs Mats Sundin for the Leaves

Some are kind of obvious but what do you think and what other players are comparable that have played for the same team?

Do you think we should get rid of Rick Dipietro due to his inconsistancy in the recent seasons. Despite his record and GAA isn't horrible it's not getting us places either. Satan is getting old and Yashin our only true captain is gone to Russia and is probably not coming back and the rest of the roster can only put up so many points to make up for rick's mistakes. PS. If we got rid of him or traded him who would you like to see between the pipes?

What is the name of the goalie (Jason is his first name) that has the nick name "Jumbo"? He played for the Houston Aeros for a while and he was the party of a team that won the Stanley cup. He is now retired. Does anyone know his last name?

.........against the goaltenders creed to go down to stop a shot?

This question came to mind as I was watching the Bobby Orr video link in Puckdats latest question. Some of the goalies just stood up as #4 was in close on a few of his plays. I wonder if during the 30's, 40's, and maybe the 50's if it was considered "unsporting-like" for a goalie to do that as a common way of making saves.

Considering that most users here are either my age or young enough to be my grandchildren, this sounds like a question for someone that recently ascended to the top of the Hockey Category. I won't say anything about his age........
