For a real question:

If every hockey player in the NHL only made $200,000 per year, do you think most of them would still play?

Which makes me think:
Do you think they would all take off to play in another league?
Do you think the Stanley Cup would lose its luster?
Do you think the NHL would still be fun to watch?
Do you think sponsorship/advertising funds would go down?

Any last words for Mark Recchi the Penguin?
He was put on waivers: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=224337&hubname=nhl

WAIT... Recchi won a Cup with the Pens in '92? I don't remember it that way. Lol. What the heck, TSN?

I'm wondering though... Doesn't Jordan Staal still live with Recchi?

Quote from a Pens fan I felt inclined to share:
"When I got home with my Mark Recchi bobblehead, I opened it right away. Obviously Therrien packaged it, because when I opened it I saw it was scratched."

LOL.

I have noticed over time that suspensions are easier and easier to get.

that Nashville player ( i didnt catch who it was) Elbowed the Montreal Defenseman (Once again, never say who it was) And got suspended, 3 years ago that wouldnt have been a suspension.

do you think Collie is making a mistake giving suspensions for elbows now too?

because i know if that was in effect during the Messier era, he would have never played, he would be too busy being suspended (i'm not dissing him, but he had one hell of an elbow)

i just think that the players might start feeling limited to what they can do because they dont want to accidently hit someone in the head and get suspended, which could limit the aggression in the NHL and cause a more boring game.

if you were campbell, how would you deal with the situation of accidental head shots?

Does anyone know what the single season record for most suspensions by a team is? The Flyers have to be on pace to break it with 5 so far.

The goal scorers in the shootout don't get goals added to their total. The saves a goalie makes don't get added up in their season and career totals. So why is one goalie given a win and the other is given a loss?
The whole shootout concept bothers me because it inflates the wins total for both teams and goalies. Through the history of the NHL, the games that remained tied after OT counted as ties for goalies and their teams. First, the NHL changes the OT to 4 on 4 and guarantees the loser a point which leaves the teams with nothing to lose at all and much more open ice to score an OT winner. Then, the NHL takes that one step further and adds the shootout, which guarantees a winner every night.
The result of this is inflation of team and goalie records. Goalies are setting wins records without actually having as great a season as the old record holder did. Teams are breaking franchise points and wins records.

Just wondering. I've heard a few Sabres fans slandering him lately. I know he didn't have an ideal departure from Buffalo and he's the Isles coach now... but he was a great coach for the Sabres. So what's the general opinion of Ted down in Western New York?

I'm so chicken to play him, especially against high-scoring teams. On the other hand, I'll play Kiprusoff against low-scoring teams, and I'll get burned on both sides of that decision. WHY WHY WHY????

Do you guys have any recommendations on getting a job in the NHL? I'm applying for the New York Rangers internship, but it is unpaid, so I can't commit to the 40 hour internship they offer.

Any ideas? Any internships I should be going for? Any training I should go for?

(Background info - I'm currently a student in New York, majoring in Business and minoring in Economics. I'm a junior, and feel it's too late to switch my major.)

At one time, 95% of the NHL players came from Canada, and most of them came from the eastern provences, so the Canadien teams got to pick the first five players from Canada.

Win % being the Wins divided by Games. Points % being Points divided by possible points. Why are these two things not on NHL.com's NHL Standings. They seem very important in the new NHL now that there are no ties. I think Points percentage gives you a better standings perspective than just points. If a team has 35 points and 82 games played but another team has 34 points and 34 games played. Which team is higher placed in the standings?

If anyone wants to know Detroit, Ottawa, and St. Louis are the top 3 Points % teams right now.
