I never had one. I am more of a t-shirt, tank top, or hoodie fan.
One day, I didn't realize until later, but I had on a Lightning tank top, a Canucks hat, and a Habs Hoodie. I looked like a freaking NHL commercial.

NHL Jersey
The first one I ever got was my own at the 1961 Black Hawks training camp.
Aside from that, I have never owned an NHL jersey with someone else's name and number on it. Nor do I still have any of the ones I got during training camp.

I got a leafs sweater when I was 5 no number.
I got a Salming jersey when I was 12 or 13. I had asked for a Bobby Orr jersey, my dad intervened. And he said he was going to disown me.
Whenever he talks about how good Bobby Orr was now I remind him of the jersey switcheroo.
