Any last words for Mark Recchi the Penguin?
He was put on waivers: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=224337&hubname=nhl

WAIT... Recchi won a Cup with the Pens in '92? I don't remember it that way. Lol. What the heck, TSN?

I'm wondering though... Doesn't Jordan Staal still live with Recchi?

Quote from a Pens fan I felt inclined to share:
"When I got home with my Mark Recchi bobblehead, I opened it right away. Obviously Therrien packaged it, because when I opened it I saw it was scratched."

LOL.

Loving Life - Yeah, I appreciate that Rex was a big contributor to the Pens' turnaround last season, that he was a mentor to the younger Pens players, and that he was on the '91 Cup team. I just think it's probably time to hang up the skates.

LUBERS - I joke around a lot... But I'm bummed. Of course I wish he was playing like he was most of last season. I mean, he came back to the Pens because he wanted to retire a Penguin... and that's pretty special. So it's sad to see. Plus, his kids have grown up in Pennsylvania, which is better than moving all over the place.

CME - Indeed, he played more than half the season with the Pens. I didn't know he was included on the Cup or got a ring though.
CDN24FAN - Yup, 1 year and $1.75 million.

HALEY - Thaaank you, thank you for that information! The Pens won the Cup that season, and he played 58 games with them, so I guess his name was on the Cup. So my apologies to TSN. Lol.

LITY - Thank you kindly, sir! :)
I guess I retract my apology to TSN. Haha.

Seeing Recchi reach the end of his career makes me sad, but that quote is a classic. You are also correct in that he was traded to the Flyers during the 92 season and did not win the second cup. I would have expected a little more out of TSN on a commonly known fact. He was always one of my favorite Flyers and the featherweight bout he had with Smolinski during the Ottawa brawl game is one of my favorites of all time. It makes those commercials where he says they will have to pry his stick from his cold dead hand a little ironic too. I guess it's time to get the crow bar out.

I wonder whether he has absolutely nothing left in the tank or if this could be a move by the Penguins to put some fear into a young team, especially given that they are so close to a playoff spot. At his age, Recchi is tough to trade at $2M per season and another season left on the contract. A team with a hole and some cap room might take a chance on him if they don't have to give anything up. As a Recchi fan, I would like to see that happen and have him go out on his own terms rather than bounce around the minor leagues for another year or two.

CME: I believe it was a trade deadline deal. He played 22 games with the Flyers and 58 with the Pens. I don't know if that would get his name on the cup or not. I had obviously been assuming that wouldn't get it done. Maybe LITY can enlighten us on those rules?

CDN: He is signed this year for $2M, next season for $1.75M.

Recchi's name is on the Cup as a Penguin for 1991 (his 2nd year), NOT 1992. TSN makes lots of mistakes.

Haley, to have your name engraved on the Stanley Cup
1. Be a member of the organization on the last day of the regular season
AND
2a. You must have dressed for 50% of the teams regular season games
OR
2b. You must have dressed for least 1 game in the Stanley Cup Final
OR
2c. The team can petition for your inclusion (The Mike Hartman rule)

I doubt he will be picked up on the way down but if the Penguins are willing to put him on re-entry waivers I am sure someone will pick him up for 1/2 price with the pens picking up 1/2 the salary.

Actually the habs are using a D-man, Mark Streit as the RW on Koivu's line tonight. For 1/2 of 1,750,000 prorated over the rest of the season I would take the chance.

A lot may depend on Recchi, he may retire rather than report to minors or even to another team depending on who would pick him up.

Correct me if I am wrong but he is only signed to 2007-2008 season right?

Edit: Thanks for 1 year as a Habs fan I would pick him up, he and Koivu were best friends when he was here.

Just an FYI on the engraving cup rules, when being traded: You must play 42 regular season games with the champion team, to be engraved on the cup. Since he only played 22 games for the Flyers.

Well you called it yesterday. I guess it came sooner than later.

Not particularly. I for my part wasn't that large partial to Ultimatum, and I simply feel that it had to give up there. I do not feel we want one more one. That being stated, the Bourne films began out as a publication sequence I consider so it is dependent upon what number of of the ones exist I wager.

Think maybe a couple seasons in the minors and he'll be ready to try again???
And right after Bobblehead night, too. I got replaced right after a bobblehead night once. That lead to many more bobblehead nights, gotta hate those bobblehead mornings, though.
