I would do more to have the league involved in keeping hockey accessible. I realize the NHL has a program to buy inner city kids gear and all that, but they need to do more for the game. MLB, the NFL and NBA do everything they can to get people playing their game, the NHL is way behind in this respect. The most devoted fans are always people who have actually played the game. If only rich kids and residents of Flin Flon can play, then the NHL doesn't have much future.

Let's see the league encourage kids from LA to Shanghai to play hockey by supporting youth hockey, and keeping hockey something parents want to have their kids involved with. Also, the league needs to come to terms with Russian hockey and work with the IIHF. Right now the league is just killing the golden goose in Russia. I have to say I agree with DC that minor penalties should be served in their entirety.

1. Stop trying to sell the game to American TV. This is a gate driven league, start acting like it is.
2. Take out the Touch Icing, people get injured for no reason.
3. If you are going to give 1 point for losing in OT or in a Shoot Out you have to give 3 points for a win. Too many teams are in the playoff hunt when they shouldn't be.

The product is not that bad. You don't need more scoring in the game. Offense for the sake of excitment is stupid because it takes away the ability to play defensive. If you can make sure people don't clutch and grab and keep the equipment size of goaltenders at a standard size it will be fine.

save the interest as is it apart from the instigator rule. changing regulations each few years only finally ends up in confusion for the straightforward followers that are maximum persons of them. i could fold/purchase out 6 communities so we could desire to get lower back to 24. i could try this by potential of removing the backside rated communities consistent with ordinary % ability and money loses over possibly 10 years or so. this could weed out communities that have unfavorable attendance 300 and sixty 5 days after 300 and sixty 5 days and in the event that they at the instant are not dropping money at the instant are not likely extraordinarily rewarding. i could positioned all those gamers right into a draft so a million team cant load up on gamers by unfastened company (Rangers) or only being a everyday team (Wings). it may additionally probably require increasing the earnings cap for some years so communities could desire to certainly sign those adult men.

If I were commisioner, that alone would be a significant enough improvement over the current one to improve the NHL.

I would get rid of the shoot out. and make a two minute penalty a two minute penalty none of this once the team scores the penalty is over. if there is a reliable 5 on 4 scoring will go up. i would also discontinue allowing short handed teams to ice the puck. their teammate committed a penalty why should they be exempt from a rule, and with out that luxury scoring will increase. Players will not be able to adapt to those rule changes because they are not fundamentals so there will be no need to continue changing the game.

Eliminate overtime, give one point for a win and none for a loss.

Otherwise the game is good as it is.
