Hockey

[Selected]: All categories Sports Hockey

One of the most overused terms in sports is superstar. In the NFL, if a player has ONE good season, they are automatically anointed star status. Pretty much the same inane reasoning is put forth in the other sports as well. Hockey has somewhat taken the same boring path, but the anointed have truly become superstars. What is your definition of a superstar? Does each team possess a superstar based on your definition? Finally, who are the true superstars playing in the NHL?

Has this ever happened before?

I was watching a game between the Penguins and the Flames where there were two goalie injury time outs within a span of about a minute. The Penguin goalie landed on his ankle wrong while attempting a save and had to leave the game. The Flames goalie took a high stick to the neck, but was able to stay in.

But, suppose both of those incidents happened to one team and the high stick had been more serious. How would a team be able to continue play? The above happened in the second period, so it's not like you could just play with an empty net with half of the game remaining.

The Gordie Howe hat trick is traditionally thought of as a goal, an assist, and a fight - all in one game. I know that 'ol Gordie only had one, and I was wondering how the heck you would find out who has had the most . . .

This is a tough one, so even if someone can figure out GHHs for this year, it would be cool.

I'm a decent goaltender who plays in Connecticut for my local public highschool. I'm the back up my junior year and everyone expects me to be the starter next year. after that im probably going to PG and play at a prep school in the area, after i would probably play for a D3 college team.
now that youve got that down
After doing that, does anyone think i would have a chance at playing in the European leagues such as SM-Liga, or the Swedish Elite League.. or one of the Swiss leagues?(thats including these leagues d2 leagues below them)
I AM IN LOVE WITH HOCKEY! and cant imagine not playing hockey. I was just wondering how European hockey compares with hockey over here.

sorry i know its a pretty broad question. its just been in my head for so long.

I am watching the box score for the Rangers game (I'm going to college out of state and can't get any Rangers on TV since I am in no way in a hockey State) and our first two goals are by Girardi and Tyutin. It seems that we have more goals from then any other team from our blue line, well my question is what team has the most goals out of their defensive corp?

"While he may have earned the right to do this to us once, I don't know if he has earned the right to do it twice." Not an exact quote, just how I remembered it but there was some animosity there for sure. It would appear that Burke's stance has changed a little from the whole "Take all the time you need. We will welcome you back with open arms."

Anyways, is it remotely possible that Niedermayer is the one who gets shipped out? I heard a rumbling that he would be much happier back on the East Coast where there is less travel, maybe he would continue his career in that scenario as well. If so, he could have a high value to an Eastern team and Anaheim could get a good package. Unlikely and pure speculation but sometimes where there is smoke, there is fire. Possible?

In order to be able to activate Scott Neidermyer Burke has to free up some cap space for next year. There is some rule with respect to "tagging room" that will prevent them from activating the all star defenseman until they clear room for next year. neidermyer is under contract for next year. Per TSN (see below) he needs to move about 3M of salary from next year.

Any thoughts on who he can trade and where? The other GMs realizing he is over a barrel are unlikely to offer up much. Also many teams have their own cap issues.
