I think McCabe's biggest problem is trying to live up to the enormous contract he was given. He tries to play over his ability and gets himself in trouble. Doesn't help when every mistake ends up in the Leaf's net. When he was paid $2 mil, and got about 15 to 20 minutes of ice time, he looked a lot better. Somehow I don't think he's about to give 2/3 of his salary back to prove my theory, but .....

Good PP guy with a great shot from the point is his biggest asset. Has a knack for giveaways in his own zone is his worst attribute. Also known to take bad penalties. Also overpaid.

My take on him is that I have never liked all of his "look at me" stuff, I think maybe he is bi-polar. Has to sport some funky green hair or a mohawk or more recently the 70's pornstar handlebars moustache. Something about him is off. Only kids act out like that.

An excellent offensive oriented defenceman who lacks the defensive set of skills. He's never been a very good skater, and despite being captain of the Islanders as a child, he doesn't have a whole lot of leadership abilities. Sadly, he's starting to lose what ability he had in the offensive zone as well.

Taking away the 'can opener' has been very detrimental to his career.

Overpaid. His game has been goin' down hill since they started calling the the can opener a penalty.
Prone to making the dumbest play possible.. and has been for a while. This season alone he has a game winning assist and game winning goal... FOR THE OTHER TEAM.

I'd trade him for a case of beer and a bucket of hockey pucks.

I do like his new dirt ball mustache tho.

Well, a microcosm of McCabe's reputation would be that his entry in Wikipedia had to be made part of a special protected list in order to avoid vandalism. That pretty much sums up what a lot of people think about him.

i dont know what to think of him. i mean i guess hes okay. when he has his good days, he plays really good defensive hockey but when he has his bad days, you wish you were drunk & either you were dreaming this or that was pre-season. when he makes mistakes, he doesnt make little mistakes, he makes the big ones (im sure i dont need to name them). i would feel much better if his contract was worth less & he plays for the rest of his time in Toronto like he is playing right now.

I like him because he scored the game winner for the Sabres :p

Really, I don't mind him. IMO, he doesn't deserve the treatment the fans and the media give him

He's like having an extra forward on the ice - for the other team.

Overrated by the Make Belief fan base. I hate him. He has one thing he does good--take slapshots. He's terrible defensively. If he wasn't a Laff, we'd never know who he was.
