I do not want to slather on sunscreen.

Are wide brimmed cycling helmets available? Or some combination of helmet and cloth to protect exposed areas of the face, neck, ears, etc. from the sun?

I ahve seen one of these advertised, but before I buy it I want to know something about it - and I've never heard of it before - I have owned lots of bikes, and four De Rosa - but never heard of this one! Is it a triathlon special or something?

I am planning of getting a bike to get to work. Can you share your usual and/or shocking or the worst experiences you had in a bike especially around London. Is it safe?

I left my bike outside while I went into Save-Mart in Lindsay, California and someone stole it. Is that messed up or what?

I hate the torpedo looking helmets they have for mountain biking. Is the BMX style ok? The half mullet style like you see at the x-games.

i just bought a new LX rear derailleur after not being able to ride my bike for several weeks. when i hooked everything up and made all the adjustments, then when out for a short test ride, nothing seemed to shift right. when its on the stand and i pedal it, the chain makes a lot of noise. i cant exactly explain it, but it doesnt make the smooth "whirring" sound like it should. i know my cassette is not worn and the chain is fairly fresh also. i just degreased all the crap off the knight before and lubed it.

when im cranking it in a lower gear, i can hear the "rrrrrrrrr" of the chain and see the derailluer cage jiggling a bit. when i shift out to 9th gear, the chain keeps jumping up and down (on the same gear) and doesnt really provide enough grab to be able to pedal consistantly.

i also checked my hanger for trueness. its been knocked around several times and i do need to replace it very soon but i straightened it out as best i can and i still seem to be having all these problems.

I've been riding for a couple months and I am tired of the bulky walmart BMX bikes, I am willing to purchase and expensive brand, but I would like to know one that is good for the begining rider.

Hello everyone,

I've yet to make a decision on a bike, as I've only just begun looking into bikes --but I've got some idea as to what I'll buy. Likely I'm looking at a hardtail (front suspension only), $400.00-$500.00.

First question, for a used bike, is front suspension hardtail the best bang for my buck? I can scale back from my $400.00-500.00 in order to get a better bike at a later time -- remember, I am a beginner and have little experience in the world of mountain biking.

Second question, I have a dilemma, and it has to do with WHERE I'll be purchasing my bike. Right now craigslist (local) and pinkbike.com are looking like my best options; however, all things considered, if these are not the best options, I would CONSIDER ebay -- but I live in Ottawa, Canada... so the shipping fees to here would be exorbitant... much too much to trifle with. Unless there is a short-fix alternative? Am I doomed to shop local?

I have a bike that has a 5spd cassette on the back wheel. The front has 2 rings making the bike a 10 spd. It's difficult to find a 5spd cassette online. Could I get a 7, 9 or 10 speed cassette assuming it would fit on the hub? Would I need to get new shifters also?

He is 8 years old and was in a horrible car crash a few months ago. I baby-sit him all the time and he is very upset that he can't ride his bike now. I am going to try to turn it into a motorized bike for him, any suggestions on how to do this I would apreciate.
