i do competetive XC racing and i am looking to buy a new frame. in your opinion, what type of frame is better? please list any pros and cons for a hardtail or dual suspension frame. i was looking into getting a specialized epic frame, so compare that to a good hardtail.

But im not sure waht year it is. All i can say at this point is that it is a sparkley blue and on the rear fender it has a picture of a rat, and it says "Rat Fin" Im 99% sure its not Rat Fink. Im thinking 1950's-early 70's

As a followup to my question about the Jeep Commanche bike, would it be advisable, given that I don't have much money to spend on a bicycle, to purchase the comanche bike, as I don't have much to spend?

Here's a link to the ad, please look it over:

As you've all said, the Jeep line isn't good (but I only have about $150.00 to spend on a bike which means it's either this bike or a Costco bike).

Thanks a bunch,

Av

No answer is dumb, crazy or gross. What fluids, matter, or situation is ok. I have ridden for ten years and seen some things that were unbelieveable.

Hello bike aficianados,

I'm looking to buy a [used] Jeep Comanche bicycle (if it's of good quality) from an online seller, located nearby my hometown. What are the good points and bad selling points of Jeep bikes? This particular bike, which is being sold for $170.00, has never "touched pavement", which I guess is a good marker for a relatively new bike, though it's 4 years old.

It's either the $170.00 Jeep Comanche or the $90.00 CCM Revenge, sold at Canadian Tire, a Wal-mart-type store here in Canada, for a retail value of about $300.00 CAD.

So... how are Jeep Comanche bikes in terms of quality, performance, durability and bang for your buck?

Thanks,

Av

I rode on a couple of dry trails and the bike is reasonably clean, however at closer inspection I see a few specks of sand in a few chain links and on the cassete... This at first glance doesn't seem to warrant a complete chain removal and full degrease routine, then again I'm not sure. If you see a few sand particles here and there, what would you do?

Hello party people in the place to be!

I've been slowly transitioning my passion from mountain biking to road biking on a mountain bike, and now I'm planning to get a road bike.

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations based upon my criteria below:

I like to bike long distances 40-100 miles per ride.
I like to climb relatively steep grades 6-10 degrees.
I love to ride really fast on both flat and slight in/declines.

The bike:
Must be full carbon or at least carbon tubes.
Preferably should be a race bike, not a leisure bike.
Should have be least Ultegra component group.
Compact gears would be nice, but are not requisite.

Price wise, I'm looking at $2000-$2600 out the door, including clipless pedals.

Any ideas...recommendations?

So far, I'm looking at:
Specialized Tarmac
Trek Madone

Just wondering what people do to strap their every day laptop bags onto a bike rack. mine is rather non tradional, or rather it's very retro so most made for the rack bags don't work on my bike.

I got in trouble today by not wearing my helmet yet I see other people who ride without their helmets. I think its stupid that i get in trouble by the cops and almost everyone else doesn't.

I seem to recall that you can't fit an 8 speed on a 7 speed frame or even a 7 speed on a 6 speed frame, but I vaguely recall that 8/9 are interchangable? Is this accurate, or was I dreaming it up?

I have a road bike that has 27'' x 1 1/4 tires. Can I substitute these tires for any other sizes? I want to put 700c because they are easier to find.

Ok, I've tried saturating the inside of the tube with WD-40, I've tried boiling water on the frame (which I now realize is stupid, since the aluminum would expand faster - d'oh), the way it broke off in the first place was trying to twist the seatpost off in a vice with the bike as leverage (so it's REAL stuck). I am SO outta options... or am I?

I am tending to do a trip to a place where renting bicycles is a common trend for travelers to do the area which includes hard slops up and down. I know nothing about bikes, so anyone can give an advice on what to look for when renting one?

Thanks

ive been looking for a new XC frame and have taken a liking to the Specialized epic with the brain fade shock. i checked mtbr.com but i cant find any decent reviews for it.

what can you tell me about it? does it have a lockout? how does it "self adjust"?

i would appreciate any specs or comments you could give me regarding this shock and frame, or let me know if you think there is something better.

just fyi, im looking for a light, XC dual suspension frame with an air shock, at least 4" of travel, and priced less than $600. ill be buying on ebay.
