I am 50 yrs. old, 6'3"/1.88m, 207lbs/94kg.
I sustained a broken ankle on Jan 3, 2007, from 3,000 lbs landing on it. The next day I had emergency surgery, the surgeon implanted a 2.75 inch screw in the inner malleous. I am beginning rehab. I normally average 16-20 mph depending on how difficult the climbing is here in the woodside hills area of the San Francisco southern peninsula, and ride for 50-70 miles. Doctors say my genetics helps me heal like a 28-34 yr old male. I will be riding with a slim aircast ankle brace.

I think I know but I want to make sure. I want to get into trail riding with my kids. One trail description says that its "technical terrain". Would I be more advised to skip that one until I do not have my kids?

It's just the rear, so it's not road hazards. I use metal tire levers rather than screwdrivers. I checked the tire for embedded sharp objects, and it seems okay. I tend to overinflate, but again, the front wheel is okay with that. Do they make stronger innertubes? Should I use Presta valves instead of the Schrader? I buy 700C tubes to match the tires.

I love to ride my bike and backpack for fitness. With a total hip replacement would I have to give up bike riding and backpacking? Also, how much time should I give myself to recover before returning to work? I am also, concider a weight lost program before I have the replacement is this a good idea?

im looking for a new fork to use on my race bike. i want something between 100-140mm (im not hardcore so i dont need a superlight, low travel fork). i want adjustable preload and rebound, lockout is a plus. must be under 4lbs. i also want it to be a disc only design. also dark colors, i dont like white.

i was originally gonna buy a Fox Vanilla RLC for $490, but opted to look around for something cheaper.

im not too knowledgeable when it comes to suspension, so let me know whats good and whats not.

are there any light, dual crown forks out there?

I would like to buy a new road racing bike, should I invest in a good (expensive) wheelset although this would mean that I will have to spend less on other parts (besides the frame).
Is there a different, beside weight, between a normal price wheelset and an expensive one. I noticed that some expensive wheelsets are only around 200g lighter.Besides speed and weight, the quality of ride is also important to me.

I have a budget of about 600$ to buy a new or used bicycle. What are some budget road bicycles that are good quality? I would be using this bicycle to take me around the city and on weekends do some longer rides most likely. Thanks!

I'll be participating in this year's Acura L.A. Bike Tour next month, and will be using a MTB. Some people think I'm crazy to use one in this event, but it's the only bike I've got. Is this all right? What's the difference, if any, with using a MTB vs. a road bike in a casual road event such as this?
