I am looking into buying a mountain bike. I stand about 5'8". What is the correct size for me. I've been told anywhere between 16-19" frames.

It is not based on your height, rather it is based on your inseam. You need to size a bike by standing over it and measuring how close it comes to your area.

I reccomend that you go to a professional bike shop and they will size you up for free.

frame sizing isnt really THAT important for mountain bikes. im 5'9" and i ride an 18" frame, so you should go for a 17" and. it also depends on your inseam, the length of the inside of your leg.

the top tube should be at least an inch away from your crotch. if you can stand over the bike with that much clearance then your good.

I would suggest going to a bike shop. There are more factors than just height in selecting the right bike. Your inseam is very important (the distance from the floor to where your legs meet), your arm reach, and such.

Try the bikes and see how they feel.

Anyone who tells you what size frame you need based only on your height is totally full of ****! Go to your LBS (local bike shop) and get fitted properly.
