the earlier post about the chain wax is good, but you can actually buy a bottled version called white lightning
I used it on my MTB for years, works great. It leaves a waxy coating that can be applied and reapplied, very easy to use.

ps- you can find it in most local bike shops.

There are a lot of things, first off is clean the rust, the fastest way is with an automatic chain cleaner/oiler, but that's a bit much for the casual user, a can of wd40(for cleaning, not lube) and a small brush will do, old toothbrush or hardware stores sell small wirebrushes that are similar to tooth brushes. THEN lube it wil chain lube, you can buy it almost anywhere, bike shops will have it but it'll cost more than Kmart or your favorite sporting goods store

I live in Florida and know alot of guys and gals who live and ride on the coast, so I know the dilemma your describing.
The old timers tell me this works best for those conditions. First remove your chain and clean it with what ever you feel is best to use, all kinds of different things out there for that.
Second make your way to the LBS and purchase a can of chain wax, melt it on the stove to consistency of water and dip the chain in the wax and let it soak long enough to penetrate the rollers.
Remove the chain, leaving the wax on the chain and let it dry and reinstall on the bike.
Yes I know it's old school but they swear it works, just like waxing there cars. Oh BTW pour the unused wax back in the can for use at another time.

Even though white lightning is a good product it's not really the same thing, you are not getting the same advantages that you do with wax and dipping your chain, remember you need too get the lube inside on the pins and rollers as well as out. The beauty of dipping your chain is you don't have to reapply ever time you ride.

You're supposed to wash your bike, and dry lube your sprockets and chains after every ride.
