Nothing wrong with the Landrider Auto-shift. The bikes design is for people who don't want to spend a bunch of money on a bike and for people who to ride a couple of times a month with their kids. Its uses are like that of a comfort bike.
It's not a bike for those who take there riding seriously and like to do alot of miles.
I hate it when people condemn something they do not understand

Auto Shift Bike

As Ric (above) says...

The Autoshift is a horrible bike even in the most basic terms and should not be considered. I don't know of a single shop that will work on them and I sure as heck won't because they can never be adjusted to work satisfactorily.

Instead, spend the same money... about $300... on a comfort bike or an atb that has indexed shifting or is equipped with a Shimano Nexus hub.

Shifting nowadays is so easy even a caveman can do it...

The bike is not shown to the customer (in person) until it is bought.
That sounds bad...
And I've seen some poor online reviews.

Overall, they give unexpected shifts at often bad times, like when riding uphill. (That is very unpleasant)

However, there is salvation. Shimano makes the Nexus line of hub shifters, which also shift automatically. They are much more reliable, and are available preinstalled on QUALITY bikes at bike shops. Furthermore, the bike shop employees will give you the best fitting bike for your size (fitting is a complicated science).
There is no one-size fits all bike.

SRAM also produces a line of automatic shifters, they're reputably better, but not as ubiquitous as the Shimano Nexus.

Not worth your time or money. The bike is built around the idea that everyone has the same cadence and shifts to keep that cadence constant.

But in the real world, each cyclist chooses the gearing that works best for him/her and learns how to shift themselves. Some people are spinners, and some are grinders.

The only way to be a better cyclist is to change your routine and do different things. A heavy, poorly built bicycle that locks you into the same pattern every ride is silly.
