I do not want to slather on sunscreen.

Are wide brimmed cycling helmets available? Or some combination of helmet and cloth to protect exposed areas of the face, neck, ears, etc. from the sun?

May the loving Father of Christ bless us,
Ron Holtman Jr.

As mentioned before, the solution is using a spray-on sunscreen. I burn easily so I try to ride early in the morning. I always start by slathering on sunscreen before I leave the house. I take the spray-on sunscreen to re-apply every few hours because there's nothing worse than trying to apply normal sunscreen when you're sweaty.

Besides the obvious face, ears, neck, arms, and tops of legs, don't forget to get the backs of your legs.

I have not seen any cloth-type alternatives out on the trails, other than a balaclava for winter riding. That would be unbearably hot during the summer.

I wear a Dorfman Pacific 100% Cotton hat that has been treated so that it is water proof. This is my winter, fall, and early spring out door hat. In Oregon the rain season is from October through April I wear a summer version that has small ventilation holes in the area your head fits in during the summer. It works perfectly for what you are looking for and does not make my head sweat very much. Both are wide-brimmed hats similar to the one xqqz_me has pictured in his or her response, but the brim faces down and is very malleable. I bought mine for under $20.00 each and I purchased them at Bi-Mart. Good luck!

I use a spray on sunscreen... it dries quickly, provides good protection, and doesn't feel nasty like some of the creams or lotions. Banana Boat makes my favorite, but I will use Coppertone continuous spray if I am out of the Banana Boat stuff...

A cheap full-face helmet would work the best and offers more protection than a regular helment. they range from 30-200$

Get yourself a Legionnaries cap to were under your helmet. A camping or fishing store should be able to help you out.
