Look at someone who rides a bike. Look at their elbows and shoulders - they will be deeply scarred from many years of falling off bikes - the hair forms a glue when it gets hot - for example when it is rubbed along the ground - which then sticks the skin to the surface of whatever it is you are falling off onto - like tarmac. By shaving your legs you minimise this friction / glue and can 'skim' over the tarmac surface more effectively in the event of a tumble. Add to this the main group of muscle under stress when you race is the leg, which needs massage to help displace lactic acid in the muscle ready for the following day's racing - and you will see why shaving the leg is a pretty vital part of the chemistry of the bike rider. Don't worry about wind resistance - the bike rider is the most unaero-dynamic blob - shaven legged or not; muscles are more accessible. Of course the muscles look more defined 'bigger' and the tan is easier to maintain - but those are PURELY asides - don't worry - bike riders are well used to answering this question, in minute detail - just ask one!

First off all bicyclist do not shave there legs, and contrary to belief it has very little to do with aerodynamics although some believe it gives them an advantage when racing.
All bike riders and I don't care how good you are, or think you are, eventually you will crash and (hit the pavement), and when you do you incur something called road rash.
When sliding down the road at twenty to twenty five mph leg hair, arm hair, tends to get caught in pavement and can make things real uncomfortable.
Removal of hair makes it a litte less painful and a little easier at the clean up end of the procedure. Most times done with medicated soap ( surgical soap ) to stop any infection and a tooth brush and tweezers to remove embedded pavement, sand and so on from your wound.
Let me say here at the end of this post, that shaving your body hair is like cutting weight off your bike in grams unless your a pro biker you gain nothing.

if you crash, the wound heals faster. Same for rugby players. It makes all wounds heal fast.
