Look mate. A 16 year old can accomplish just about anything they want if they set there mind to it and give it time.

I Know of a girl (lived not far from me) who went from a novice to riding in the Tour Feminin (female version of the tour de france) in three years.

Hopefully this will inspire you to get out there and go for it.

You have to build your physical strength and conquer your fears. I imagine that you want to do some of the acrobatic stuff. Also, is BMX the right kind of riding for you? You're 16, and you probably want to do the kind of riding that your friends are doing. It's good that you want to ride - but you have to keep your mind open and do the kind of riding that comes natural to you - BMX, MTB, cyclocross, road racing, touring...

Just hang out at a bike shop and see what's exciting for you. Bike shops always get me psyched about riding.

I'm in the same circumstances as you...for the most part. And I just want to tell you this, my brother started when he was 14 years old. He practiced every day for 3 years. I mean he practiced and practiced. In just that short amount of time he is no riding for a local company and is doing well.

Practice! My friend's bro is 17 and trying to go pro for MTB. Practice is the best thing you can do. Set up a course somewhere where you can--it works.

Statistically - it takes at least 8 hours plus a week to improve at any level of cycling.

So, there is your commitment!
