....... "oh but now we have the NT which superceded the OT" argument. In this way the parts about condoning slavery and stoning unruly children to death can be sidestepped and glossed over.

However it is still ok to use the OT to justify hating gay people or simply saying being gay is wrong.

So are some bits still relevent and other bits not ? How do we know which are the bits to keep and which bits to discard ?

Two of my best friends are gay. One is a surgeon who saves lives every day. How anybody could believe that such a person would be "cast into a lake of fire" is beyond me.

The bible was written by humans - Good humans, but humans all the same.
There are hundreds of years between those who wrote the books in Bible - many of which did not know Jesus.
Then there is the problem of translation - translators do not translate direct form original text, but earlier translations - sound like broken telephone.
How can the Bible possily be "The Word of God."
Im not criticizing, just discussing.

There's been a lot of talk about how the hijackers who destroyed the World Trade Center expected to receive 72 virgins (or 70 or 50, depending on whom you listen to) in paradise. Is this really true? (That they expected this, I mean, not that they'll receive it.) It seems a rather unsophisticated and juvenile theology: "In heaven you can eat all the ice cream you want and stay up past ten o'clock and it's always recess." Is there any Koranic basis for believing that those who kill and die for the faith will get the aforementioned virgins?

Hadith number 2,562, known as the Sunan al-Tirmidhi ,

"'The smallest reward [each] for the people of Heaven is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine and ruby, as wide as the distance from [Damascus] to [Yemen].'"

I've searched and searched and haven't seen why we have Sunday services and not Saturday services. People have told me that Jesus changed it but never gave me a verse or reasoning. My research has found that the Catholic church changed it. If so then why do non-catholics observe the Sunday worship instead?

I wish Christians would stop believing that their religion is the only one. There are many other religions that have just as much evidance to back their religion.
I would love to know what drives Christians to believe that any non-christian is a sinner?
Surely a lack of tolerance and narrow-mindedness is more of a sin, because thats what causes wars.

How can anyone claim that Islam is a religion of peace when anyone who tries to bring the Islamic world into modernity is assassinated? We've seen it in Lebanon all too frequently and now Benazir Bhutto is assassinated in Pakistan,

Should the Pope put more pressure on World Leaders to stop all of their mischief.... Should he excommunicate Catholic leaders who overtly fly in the face of Christ's message and doctrine? Should he call on Catholics to boycott those who do not respect Christian values? Should the Vatican also clean up its own house as well? I don't mean turning back to the Grand Inquisition but standing up for Chrsitian values, no one else seems to!!!!

Jesus and John the Baptist started out together, and Jesus had the very highest praise for John and his ministry... and yet today's preachers seem to overlook Lk. 3:3 and Mark 1:4 about John preaching the baptism of repentance for the "forgiveness of sins." It suggests that John's baptism had the power to forgive sins long before the crucifixion came along. Just another Gospel Enigma... or can you explain why preachers consider Luke 3:3 about the forgiveness of sins, so unimportant.

If you want the context of this question... http://gospelenigma.com ...find it in chapter 7

First we must define what we mean by hatred, otherwise Muslims feel much more license to lie, relative to what they personally consider to be "hatred". The following quote, from a YA user, by a Muslim living in America, expresses perfectly what we mean by "hate for the west":

USER "JOB" ---

"IN the West, money is god almighty even among a vast majority of those who say they are "religious". Televangelist wear silk suits, Rolex watches and are driven about in a stretch limo as they go to and from their mansions. They admit to sexual tryst and affairs, to drug use and homosexuality and then they say they have been forgiven.

I am an old man who has watched as the West has fallen into a steady decline of decadent and immoral behaviors that would shock the ancient Romans, that would scandalize the people of Sodom and Gomorah and, sadly, I have watched as much of the world has tried despirately to adopt the ways of the West."
